Musically Lion of Judah have been compared to Swiz, Burn, B'last!, early Fugazi, Bad Brains, Faith No More, and even Red Hot Chili Peppers. Lyrically Lion of Judah provides a mix of direct and existentialist takes on the social and political issues of today tempered with a dose of introspection.
Lion of Judah, as a band, stands for challenging the conventions of both society and hardcore on every level. From their self-booked tours, innovative song structures and reliance on analog recordings, to their rejection of contemporary hardcore aesthetics Lion of Judah "shines amongst the sea of mindless and boring modern hardcore acts."

Cry for the people here
Soon they will plead
"Mountains please fall on me now"
Don't cry for me
Cry for your children now
Soon you will see
Better the childless one
Cry for the sin in you
This is my grief
Judgement is coming soon
Jesus, please open my eyes
Show me the sin in my life
I am the reason You die
Jesus, please open my eyes
Father, forgive
They know not what they do
Truly my friend
Paradise waits for you
Here is your son
She is your mother now
Care for her needs
Love my beloved one
Don't cry for me
Cry for the sin in you
This is my grief
I must make all things new
Jesus, please open my eyes
Show me the sin in my life
I am the reason You die
Jesus, please open my eyes
Jesus, please open my eyes
Show me the sin in my life
I am the reason You die
Jesus, please open my eyes
The lyrics of "Open My Eyes" by Lion Of Judah convey a deep sense of empathy, reflection, and personal responsibility. The song begins by urging the listener not to cry for the singer, but rather for the people around them. It suggests that these people will soon be in desperate need, as they plead for mountains to fall on them. This is a metaphorical expression of their desire for escape or relief, indicating a state of immense hardship and suffering.
The lyrics then shift focus to the listener's own children, emphasizing the need for concern and compassion towards them. The singer suggests that the listener will soon witness the consequences of their actions, and it is implied that these consequences will be unfavorable. This serves as a reminder that the choices one makes in life can have a lasting impact on future generations.
The song continues with a plea to Jesus to open the eyes of the singer, revealing the sins and shortcomings in their own life. The singer acknowledges their own responsibility for Jesus' sacrifice, expressing remorse and a desire for forgiveness. This demonstrates a deep sense of personal accountability and a genuine desire for self-improvement.
The lyrics also touch on the crucifixion of Jesus and his forgiveness for those who do not fully comprehend their actions. The reference to paradise waiting for a friend suggests the promise of salvation and redemption.
Overall, "Open My Eyes" by Lion Of Judah is a powerful and introspective song that encourages self-reflection, empathy for others, and the recognition of personal responsibility in relation to one's own actions and their consequences.

The third and final video in Lion of Judah's video series for their concept record 'The Antidote'. Open My Eyes tells the story of Jesus crucifixion told mostly through Jesus own words from the gospels, with the chorus being our response. Intended as an antidote to apathy, the purpose of the song is to remind us that what Jesus did for us demands a response, and how could we live apathetically after seeing Jesus take on our sin for us. Today, God really put a finger on my sin, I was overwhelmed with so much guilt and had to confess to God and face the sin in me, and it was the sin of complacency, laziness and cutting corners And somehow He showed me through that complacency leads to apathy, and it's dangerous. And the lyrics of this song, "Show me the sins in my life" and this song came to mind. How funny that it talks about apathy.. T_T

These lyrics are helping me. I've felt distanced from God increasingly since lockdown, and this has been the song (since yesterday) which is bringing me back to Him. It's also helping me fight sin. "Cry for the sin in you. This is my grief." and "I am the reason you die". Those lines, preventing me from sinning. I love Jesus and don't want to let Him down ❤️

Thank you for making the words Jesus spoke resound so loudly in me, Lion of Judah. His heart, his grief, all the way to the cross, is for others. May that be our own heartbeat 💖. "Jesus please open my eyes"
