Formed in 1999, the band has four members: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet. There is no lead singer in the band; instead, they trade lead vocal duties as well as rely on the harmonies of the four members.
Little Big Town's self-titled 2002 debut for Sony's Monument Records was panned critically and did not sell commercially. The album had only one minor hit single, "Don't Waste My Time," and it wasn't long before Little Big Town was dropped from the label.
Little Big Town resurfaced on the Equity Music Group label (formed by country singer Clint Black), and on October 4, 2005, released their second album, The Road to Here. The new album was well-received critically, and spawned the smash hit single "Boondocks." Three further singles were released from the album, including the Top 5 hit "Bring It on Home."
Their second album with the Equity label, A Place to Land, was released in 2007. Although, not long after its release, the label folded. Little Big Town then re-released the album a year later via Capitol Nashville. Two of the album's singles were minor Top 40 hits.
In 2010, the group returned with "Little White Church," the lead-off to their fourth studio album, The Reason Why, which was released on August 24, 2010.

Feel it breathin' down heavy on you
You made that bed you're layin' on
Deeds that you have done
Now you can't undo
You've got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the sun to go down
You can't hide from your demons
Feel them all lurking around
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
It's a long and hard row to hoe
When seeds that you sow
Grow by the wicked moon
Be sure your sins will find you out
The past will hunt you down
And return to tell on you
You've got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
Ain't no doubt, dear,
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the sun to go down
You can't hide from your demons
Feel them all lurking around
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
Oh, it stands to reason
Every dog will have his day
Your day is leaving
Better hold on tight
Here comes the night
You've got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
Ain't no doubt, dear,
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the sun to go down
(Waitin' for the sun to go down)
You can't hide from your demons
Feel them all lurking around
(They've got ya runnin')
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
They're waiting for the sun to go down
Down
What goes around comes around
Feel it breathin' down heavy on you
The lyrics of Little Big Town's "Bones" reflect the idea that past mistakes and misdeeds never truly disappear, but rather lurk beneath the surface waiting to come out. The imagery of "bones in your closet" and "ghosts in your town" evoke a sense of secrets and shame, things that are hidden away but ultimately impossible to bury. The chorus warns that the consequences of these past actions will inevitably catch up to the individual, waiting for "the sun to go down" when all is revealed.
The song's bridge adds to this sense of foreboding, reminding the listener that the "seeds that you sow" will inevitably grow and that "the past will hunt you down." The imagery of the "wicked moon" and the idea that "your sins will find you out" adds to the haunting quality of the song.
Overall, "Bones" serves as a reminder that actions have consequences, and that even when we try to bury our past mistakes, they have a way of resurfacing. The song's melancholy tone and haunting lyrics make it a powerful meditation on regret and the weight of our own history.
