After The Rain
Little Dragon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

After the rain

And after the rain the temperature dropped
And covered in ice was my window top
I say goodbye, I wave my hand
As a thousand doves fly
Across the blackened night
After the rain we forget
We make sure we gain, then we leave it
'Cause we're a nation of forgetters
Oh, after the rain we pretend
It's easier to begin without looking back

'Cause all at once air so thin
And there's nothing left to breathe in

After the rain we forget
After the rain we forget

Behind the dream so rosy and red
A pile of things to forget
A voice of the past tiptoes in
A cracking, a ghost whispering

After the rain we forget
We make sure we gain, then we leave it
'Cause were a nation of forgetters

After the rain we forget
After the rain we forget

People, where have you been?
Have you been hiding in your big houses?
And people, after the rain, will your life
Will it ever be the same?

Oh, people, what will you do
When your luck, when it turns on you?
People, after the rain, will your life
Will it ever be the same?

After the rain we forget

Overall Meaning

Little Dragon's "After The Rain" is a song about the aftermath of a rainstorm and how it can affect people's lives. The song explores the idea that after a storm, we tend to forget the issues that we were facing before because we are so consumed by the events that have taken place. The first verse talks about how the temperature drops and how the window is covered in ice after a heavy rain. The singer says goodbye and waves their hand as a thousand doves fly across the blackened night, symbolizing a sense of hope and renewal.

The second verse discusses the idea that we tend to forget about our problems after the rain. We focus on gaining something new and forget about the issues we were previously facing. The singer points out that we are a "nation of forgetters," implying that it's part of our nature to move on quickly regardless of what has happened. The line "It's easier to begin without looking back" suggests that we tend to forget about our past to move forward more easily.

The last verse addresses people directly, asking where they have been and if they have been hiding in their big houses. The singer acknowledges that after the rain, life may never be the same again, and questions what people will do when their luck turns on them.

Después de la lluvia)

[Verso 1]

NOW
PLAYING

[Pre-Estribillo]

[Estribillo]
Después de la lluvia, olvidamos
Después la lluvia, nos olvidamos

[Puente]
Gente, ¿dónde has estado?
¿Os habéis estado escondiendo en vuestras casas grandes?
Gente, después de la lluvia
¿Será tu vida, alguna vez será la misma?
Oh, gente, ¿qué harán
cuando tengan suerte, cuando se vuelva contra ustedes?
¡Cortejar! Gente, después de la lluvia
¿Será tu vida, alguna vez será la misma

@docm4544

I think this is about tragedies that go on natural disasters, political corruption, police brutality, slavery, how everyone just forgets after its all said and done and doesn't dwell on the past, nore care about the ppl affected.. and how the rich never do anything good with all their money and power

@modestrocker1

@@docm4544 your wrong about the rich.... many rich people do good things with their money you just dont hear about it because its not drama and sensationalist. the rest of your post is 100% on point tho

@docm4544

@@modestrocker1 Fr!! some do, but a good majority don't give a fuck about anyone poor or struggling. "People, where have you been? Have you been hiding in your big houses?" and the whole concept of this video is about the rich not doing anything and turning the other way and being stuck in their safe and cozy, beautiful house and never speaking on any social issues after it clears up, once the sun comes up, no need to address anything cuz it already happened, lots of ppl have that arrogant, selfish mentality

@huwguyver4208

Love Little Dragon. Get a bit of a Björk vibe from this track with the wonderfully oddball instrumentation and vocal flourishes. Awesome!

@docm4544
