Dystopia
Little World Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Not number one with the bullet
Not what needed I all night long

Relayed & connected
Hold on the line
Not feeling very strong

Escape
From identity
Just rise now
From that darkened sea

Defy all your probabilities
Turn your back on "your what must be's"
Your reality

In Dystopia
In Dystopia

We can always rest on Sunday
Otherwise what are we livin' for
Not looking for restitution
Just a break from feeling all day long

Escape
From identity
Just rise now
From that darkened sea

Defy all your probabilities
& Turn your back on "your what must be's"
Your reality

Between the darkness & the light
There's a place where we can be tonight
The stars are always shining there
The stars are always shining there

In Dystopia
In Dystopia

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Little World's song Dystopia speak of the desire to escape from one's own identity and from the pressures of conforming to societal expectations. The opening lines "Not number one with the bullet/ Not what needed I all night long" suggests that the singer is not living up to expectations, but also does not desire to do so. The next lines "Relayed & connected/ Hold on the line/ Not feeling very strong" introduce the idea of being connected, but not feeling connected. This creates a sense of distance and disconnection from the world.

The idea of escaping from one's identity is further developed in the lines "Escape/ From identity/ Just rise now/ From that darkened sea". The idea of rising from a darkened sea suggests the singer is trying to overcome something overwhelming that has kept them down. The lines "Defy all your probabilities/ Turn your back on 'your what must be's'/ Your reality" suggest that the singer is trying to create their own reality, rather than being constrained by outside expectations.

The chorus "In Dystopia" is repeated several times throughout the song. In the context of the lyrics, it seems that the singer is referring to the world they are trying to escape from. The line "Between the darkness & the light/ There's a place where we can be tonight/ The stars are always shining there" suggests that this place of escape exists somewhere beyond the constraints of society, a place that offers the singer some respite from the pressures of everyday life.
