Crucifix
Lo-tel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You wear that crucifix
Like a dead man wears a scar
Whenever people stop to stare
I swear your eyes light up with stars

Pre-Chorus
You're Twice the man that I am
Fuck you I don't deny it
Doesn't mean I have to like it

Chorus
And I lie awake, thinking about stuff
All kinds of things but mostly about you
Some of the time I reach conclusions
It's not that I hate you, I just want to be you

V2
A new apartment's really cool
And everybody's real impressed
Furniture is spotless
But your mind's a total mess

Rpt Pre-Chorus x 1

Rpt Chorus x 1

Rpt Verse 1 x 1

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lo-tel's song Crucifix are an introspective examination of envy and admiration of someone who appears to have all the confidence and self-assurance that the singer lacks. In the first verse, the singer describes how this person wears a crucifix as if it were a badge of honor, and how they seem to attract attention with their confident demeanor. However, the singer acknowledges that this person is also somewhat disconnected from their surroundings, likening them to a "dead man" with a scar. The pre-chorus reveals that although the singer is jealous of this person's confidence and charisma, they are also aware that they themselves are not as impressive. In the chorus, the singer admits to lying awake at night thinking about this person, and how they reach the conclusion that they don't hate them, they just want to be them. The second verse describes how this person appears to be successful in their material possessions, but that their mind is in turmoil.

The lyrics of Crucifix explore a relatable theme of envy and the desire to be someone else. The use of religious imagery with the crucifix adds an extra layer of depth, as religious symbols often represent a higher power or wisdom that the singer feels they lack. The repetition of the pre-chorus and chorus throughout the song gives a sense of obsession and the internal struggle the singer is experiencing. The song concludes with a final reiteration of the first verse, as if to emphasize the cyclical nature of the singer's thoughts and feelings.

@bigbowlowrong4694

This was such a great band. Unfortunately Australia tends to be a musical graveyard for talented rock bands, at least for the last 20 years.

@charabotte1

maybe if they wrote songs that had actual meaning (like the Village People did) and had cool dancers and costumes (like the Village People or Boney M) they would be recognised worldwild too. The music is good though.

@CharlesDaBeast

@jem2346

@Champion0fTheWorld

The drummer was a friend of mines drum teacher., I remember her telling my at the time he was a Christian and I’m pretty sure he wasn’t keen to stick with the band cuz it messed with his Christian values.. I forget the bands original name but it was very similar to Jihad and they changed it cuz of the whole Islam thing..

@luigix5296

Davo The Original name was Brenda Starr and the drummer Darren Brollo is definitely not christian he left the band because of the lead singer
