Strong
London Grammar/London Grammar Lyrics

Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed and I'm so down caught in the middle
I've excused you for a while
While I'm wide-eyed and I'm so down caught in the middle

And a lion, a lion
Roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child
Cries would you not give them?

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Excuse me for a while
Turn a blind eye with a stare caught right in the middle
Have you wondered for a while
I have a feeling deep down, you're caught in the middle?

If a lion, a lion
Roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child
Cries would you not give them?

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed and I'm so down caught in the middle
Have you wondered for a while
I have a feeling deep down you're caught in the middle

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
Yeah, I might seem so strong

Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Overall Meaning

The song "Strong" by London Grammar is a powerful and emotive description of feeling caught in the middle of a difficult situation. The use of the metaphor of a lion roaring and a child crying emphasizes the urgency and importance of paying attention to those who need help, even if they seem strong on the outside. The pleading tone of the lyrics suggests that the singer has been overlooked or dismissed in the past and is asking for recognition and assistance.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of vulnerability and confusion. The repetition of the phrase "I've never been so wrong" indicates a realization that the singer's strength and words may have been misleading and that they are struggling internally. The line "excuse me for a while" implies a temporary disconnect from reality, a desire to withdraw and recharge.

Overall, "Strong" is a haunting and moving song that touches on universal themes of strength, vulnerability, and the importance of compassion.

A BIG congratulations to our very own London Grammar on winning the Ivor Novello award for 'Best Song Musically and Lyrically' for 'Strong'.

If we could double like this video we would!

@michaelburke7742

Do you know if this is a cover song? It sounds very similar.

@thebigmoosy9706

This just proves how utterly dead this industry is. Next year Nicky Minaj is going to win an award for "most creative music video featuring a jizzing coconut".

@Stevek552

@@thebigmoosy9706 Take your fuckwit troll opinion where it`s of value.. Don`t know?..

Coming back to this song always helps me to bring to the surface the emotions I have been hiding or keeping away from others. I’m strong for others to only be away to break into a million pieces when I’m alone. When I’m done, I do my best to pick up all the pieces and move forward. Thank you LG for helping me process all the pain.

@blackcat3785

maybe think about this...open up to all the people you have been strong for,they may surprise you...after all we are only human.being strong is also telling people you need help,something i learned from my best friend before he past,lg was his favourite band he loved this song,and i always come back to this...

Appreciate your candid sharing. Know there are millions who do the same. What a difference we could all make to openly acknowledge the pain we all feel at times-and support each other through it. I vow to. Be well.
