Originally a covers band playing ballsy renditions of songs like 'Sorry', 'I Need to Know', 'Turn Up Your Radio' and of course their trademark 'Spicks & Specks' they soon developed a large repertoire of catchy originals.
In late 1979 drummer Steve Brabeck resigned and Phil Edwards took his place. After breaking up in July 1981 three of the founding members, the Rooney brothers John & Michael and Tom Watson, reformed with drummer Greg Ohlback & Guilio Mariani in November 1981. By February 1982 Greg & Guilio had left and Phil Edwards returned to play drums. In March 1982 they recorded their first single which was released in July. The double A side single Don't Feel Safe/Last Kiss rapidly sold the 1,000 copies which were pressed. In September 1982 Down Around the Corner was released on the 2UW Homegrown album and in June 1983 this was followed up by another single Ambition backed with Tonight. Down Around the Corner was then released on a Waterfront Records promotional EP in late June 1983.
After several years of intense gigging the band broke up again in February 1984 leaving behind numerous demo tapes and other recordings which to date have not been released.
In 1989 the band reformed with Dale Steedman replacing an unavailable Michael Rooney on bass and Anthony Bautovich rejoining on 2nd guitar. They released The Spell backed with Last Chance on Regular Records and in 1994 the Lonely Hearts called it quits.

And everything in between
The world keeps spinning and you keep grinning
But I'll, I'll never let you go
The demons eat at the feast of old
A baby born with a heart of gold
And sometimes I feel like I sold my soul
I'll never let you feel this way, it's all okay
Just dance and sing, you pretty thing
I've always had a time with tendencies
To do things without wrong
A passion without loyalty
Has lasted far too long
A century that takes its toll
An innocence that we all know
And sometimes I feel like I sold my soul
But I'll, I'll never let you go
I'll never let you feel this way, it's all okay
Just dance and sing, you pretty thing
Don't feel this way, it's all okay
I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go
And I am the weakest of the sinners and the saints
I am the weakest of the sinners and the saints
Oh, I am the weakest of the sinners and the saints
Oh, I am the weakest of the sinners and the saints
Don't feel this way, it's all okay
Just dance and sing, you pretty thing
Don't feel this way, it's all okay
I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go
The song "Love And Politics" by Lonely Hearts explores the themes of love, politics, and the struggle to maintain one's integrity in a world full of temptation. The first verse talks about people talking about love and politics and everything in between while the world keeps spinning and the person being spoken to keeps grinning. However, the singer promises to never let the person go. The demons eat at the feast of old could be interpreted to mean that the sins of the past continue to haunt and tempt us. The next line mentions a baby being born with a heart of gold, possibly indicating the hope for purity and innocence amid the corruption of the world. The chorus reiterates the singer's promise to never let the person feel bad, encouraging them to just dance and sing.
The second verse touches on the singer's personal struggles, admitting to having tendencies to do wrong and a passion without loyalty. They mention a "century that takes its toll," perhaps referring to the destructive toll of time and history on people. They still promise to never let go of the person they are singing to, despite feeling like they have sold their soul at times. The final chorus repeats the comforting words of the singer, assuring the other person that everything is okay and they will never let them go.
