In the first verse, Lorde references a hit, possibly referring to drugs, and suggests that biting down can replace that feeling. She also describes feeling overwhelmed and using the act of biting down as a way to calm herself. The refrain repeats the line "it feels better biting down", emphasizing the relief this action brings.
The second verse reinforces this theme, with Lorde repeating the lines about feeling like she's drowning before finding comfort in biting down.
The bridge is a bit more abstract, but seems to be referring to the fragility of the heart, both metaphorically and literally. The "electronics" of the heart could be interpreted as the heart's rhythm or pulse, and the suggestion that they fall apart quickly could be a nod to the brevity of life and the fragility of emotions. The repetition of the chorus in the bridge emphasizes the idea that biting down can provide a moment of relief from these intense emotions.
Overall, "Biting Down" seems to be a meditation on finding ways to cope with overwhelming feelings and the importance of taking a moment of release when needed. The act of biting down is presented as a cathartic release that offers a moment of reprieve and the possibility of a fresh start.

It feels better biting down
In Lorde's song Biting Down, she talks about how biting down feels better than letting yourself drown in your thoughts, emotions, and feelings. She emphasizes this by repeating the lyrics "it feels better biting down". These lines can be interpreted both literally and figuratively. Literally, biting down may be a physical action that provides a sense of control or distraction from overwhelming emotions. Figuratively, it may symbolize the act of suppressing one's emotions, inhibitions or desires to conform to societal norms or to avoid confrontation.
The lines "skip a hit, don't make a sound" may also be interpreted in similar ways. Lorde may be telling us that sometimes we need to ignore our desires or impulses and keep quiet for our own good. We should hold back from making decisions that might have negative consequences, like addictions or toxic relationships.
Furthermore, the lines "the electronics of your heart, see how fast they fall apart" could be interpreted as an acknowledgement of the way that technology and social media can negatively impact our emotional wellbeing. The constant notifications, likes, and comments can be addictive, but they can also quickly consume and damage our hearts and minds.
Overall, Lorde's Biting Down is a song that speaks about the importance of self-control and the need to be aware of the impact of our actions on our emotional and mental health.

I swear 'biting down' is such a Chicago song, or just a city song in general. something about the steady, insistent tempo. The hypnotic way she repeats it so melodiously. Like running through the city at night, theres tension, the hard sounds of your footfall on pavement and the fast, loud sound of your heartbeat and breath. the lights dotting the skyline and highrises. The dark, thrashing waters of the river and the lake beckon you. And the citylife surrounds you, the murmur and shouts of people marching through their lives. The screech and rumble of the trains on the L. Its electric and metallic and gritty. It really does feel better 'biting down', to be caught in the midst of it all.
