Team
Lorde Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wait 'til you're announced
We've not yet lost all our graces
The hounds will stay in chains
Look upon Your Greatness and She'll
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out
Send the call out, send the call out

Call all the ladies out
They're in their finery
A hundred jewels on throats
A hundred jewels between teeth
Now bring my boys in
Their skin in craters like the moon
The moon we love like a brother
While he glows through the room

Dancin' around the lies we tell
Dancin' around big eyes as well, ah
Even the comatose
They don't dance and tell

We live in cities you'll never see on-screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know we're on each other's team

I'm kind of over gettin' told to throw my hands up in the air
So there

So all the cups got broke
Shards beneath our feet
But it wasn't my fault
And everyone's competing for a love they won't receive
'Cause what this palace wants is release

We live in cities you'll never see on-screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know we're on each other's team

I'm kind of over gettin' told to throw my hands up in the air
So there
I'm kind of older than I was when I reveled without a care
So there

We live in cities you'll never see on-screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know we're on each other's team

We're on each other's team
And you know we're on each other's team

We're on each other's team
And you know, and you know, and you know

Overall Meaning

The song "Team" by Lorde is an anthemic track that touches on themes of unity, rebellion, and self-assurance. The opening lines, "Wait 'til you're announced, we've not yet lost all our graces, the hounds will stay in chains" suggest a sense of anticipation and a feeling of being on the brink of something. The use of the phrase "Your Greatness" represents a higher power or force, and the repetition of "send the call out" can be interpreted as an urging for action and change. The song goes on to reference the idea of putting on a show or performance, with the lines "Call all the ladies out, they're in their finery, a hundred jewels on throats, a hundred jewels between teeth." The juxtaposition of these lines with the previous section suggests an underlying sense of rebellion, as if the performers are putting on a façade or masking their true feelings.

In the pre-chorus, Lorde sings, "Dancin' around the lies we tell, dancin' around big eyes as well, even the comatose, they don't dance and tell." This may be interpreted as a commentary on societal norms and expectations, and the pressure to conform or hide one's true self. The chorus, "We live in cities you'll never see on-screen, not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things, livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams, and you know we're on each other's team" speaks to finding strength and solidarity among a group of outsiders, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

One interesting fact about the song "Team" is that it was originally meant to be the third single from Lorde's debut album "Pure Heroine," but due to the success of her second single "Royals," it ended up being released as the second single instead. Additionally, the music video for "Team" features Lorde and a group of young people exploring a run-down urban landscape, which was shot in an abandoned subway tunnel in Brooklyn, New York. The song was covered on the TV series "Glee," and was also featured in several major films and TV shows, including "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1" and "Grey's Anatomy." The track was produced by Joel Little, who also worked with Lorde on "Royals" and several other tracks. Interestingly, Lorde has said in interviews that the inspiration for the song came from a dream she had about a world in which teenagers were in charge. She has also cited the 1982 film "Blade Runner" as an influence on the song's lyrics and overall vibe.

***** When I said this message, I should have pointed out that I am honestly a fan of Taylor Swift, as for Selina Gomez though, not so much. I have a platinum version cd of Taylor Swift and got a Taylor Swift poster as a gift. But telling you this, I'm not being bias, it's just that Taylor was using the same formula for quite some time, but now she slowly changing. And on the other hand Selina Gomez I find..I don't know, I don't have much of an opinion towards her except that her new song "Come and Get it" I find a little repetitive, with an overuse of filler words, and it doesn't have much of a gripping intro either.

(Eh-Boo-Eh, Ah-Bella-Ya)
(Eh-Bee-Eh-Boo-Eh, Ah-Bella-Ya)
(Eh, Eh, Eh, Eh)

When you're ready come and get it
Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na
When you're ready come and get it
Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na

When you're ready-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh
When you're ready-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh-Eh
When you're ready come and get it
Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na

I did not add anything extra to that, those are indeed the real lyrics to "Come and Get it" from the beginning. I'm not saying she's a bad artist, I'm just saying that "Come and Get it" doesn't show her true capability such as her song "Who Says". I've also watched videos of interviews with Lorde, and also videos about what she said about "TS" and "SG's song", how some of them are saying that since she's new to the industry that she shouldn't be commenting the "queen bees of music". She shouldn't let that stop her, you see people all the time on the internet having there comments without hesitation.
Also I should point the fact the I played Mario Party 7 today for four hours while listening to Lorde on loop the whole time, and am still not bored of music. That my fellow humans is the result of the creation of original music that spiritually captures the audience with such a beautiful voice that won't ever get old.  Xiexie!
     -Piece! :)

Fun fact, this song is for our military and how their families sacrifice so much for our freedom. “They won’t dance until we live city’s / you’ll never see on screen / not very pretty but we show them how to run free”. “And you know, we’re on each other’s team”. Our military and their families go through so much for us to have a chance at a better life. Don’t sell America short, we are better than socialism
