The House
Lordi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See how the day dies with the sunset
It touches your hair and it paints it blood red
Please don't you leave me, I begged and I prayed
You stole my heart and you left me anyway

Your eyes milky white they shine in the night
I laid my head gently down by your side
I dare not to breath don't know I would make a sound
Your stench intoxicates me till my mind spins round and round

I found a house that's foretold of, forbidden in the woods
And it's shaking me down to my core
You come to life as we go there, you might not be so good
But I miss you so much I don't care anymore

I found a house that's foretold of, forbidden in the woods
You come to life as we go there, you might not be so good

I had to pick it back, carried you inside
You looked like something evil as the house gave you life
With graveside flowers you made a crown for me
I feel like a junkie, I breathe you in deep

A madman's inventions eternity
I was sheltered but I believed you'd always be with me

I had the visions you gouged out my eyes
The crown made of flowers will wither grey and die

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lordi's song "The House" tell a dark and haunting story of love, loss, and obsession. The song begins by setting the scene of a dying day, with the sunset painting the singer's hair blood red. The singer pleads, begging their loved one not to leave, as they had stolen their heart and eventually left anyway. The imagery used in these lines creates a sense of desperation and heartbreak.

The second verse describes the object of the singer's affection, with their eyes shining milky white in the darkness of the night. The singer lays their head softly beside their loved one, so as not to disturb them. However, there is a hint of danger as the beloved's stench intoxicates the singer, causing their mind to spin round and round. This suggests a toxic and perhaps even dangerous bond between the two.

The chorus reveals that the singer has discovered a forbidden house in the woods, foretold of in some way. Despite the potential danger, they are willing to risk it because they miss their loved one so much. This further emphasizes the depth of their obsession and longing for the person who has left them.

In the final verse, the singer brings their beloved back to the house, describing them as something evil that comes to life within its walls. The image of making a crown out of graveside flowers suggests a twisted and morbid devotion. The singer acknowledges feeling like a junkie, addicted to their loved one's presence and breathing them in deeply. The final lines speak of madness and self-inflicted blindness, as the beloved gouges out the singer's eyes. The crown of flowers, representing their love, ultimately withers and dies, perhaps symbolizing the destruction and decay this obsession brings.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a deeply disturbed and destructive relationship, where love and obsession become intertwined, leading to madness and despair.

Why isn't it in stereo? :(

Brandon Dale

I know what it says on the websites, but I really sounds like hes saying "NOW YOU'RE SO VISCOUS, YOU GOUGED OUT MY EYES"

Samuel Laakso

I also hear the part "you looked like something evil, as the house gave you life" as "you laughed like something evil".

Small change but personally I think it would make the scene so much scarier.
