Going Nowhere
Los Bravos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Monday morning feels so bad
Everybody seems to nag me
Come on Tuesday, I feel better
Even my old man looks good

Wednesday just won't go
Thursday goes too slow
I've got Friday on my mind

I'm gonna have fun in the city
I'll be with my girl, she's so pretty
She looks fine tonight
She is outta sight to me

Tonight, I'll spend my bread
Tonight, I'll lose my head
Tonight, I've got to get tonight
Monday, I have Friday on my mind

Do the five day drag once more
No one, nothing else that bugs me
Now I'm working for the rich man
Hey, I'll change that scene one day

Tonight, I'll might get mad
Tomorrow I'll be glad
'Cause I've got Friday on my mind

I'm gonna have fun in the city
Be with my girl, she's so pretty
She looks fine tonight
She is outa' sight to me

Tonight, I'll spend my bread
Tonight, I'll lose my head
Tonight, I've got to get tonight
Monday, I have Friday on my mind

I'm gonna have fun in the city
I'll be with my girl, she's so pretty
I'm gonna have fun in the city

I'll be with my girl, she's so pretty
I'm gonna have fun in the city

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Going Nowhere" by Los Bravos describe the mundane monotony that many people experience during the week, eagerly anticipating the weekend. The song starts off with the singer expressing his dissatisfaction with Monday, as everyone seems to nag him. However, things begin to look up on Tuesday and Wednesday until Thursday, which seems to drag on too long. The highlight of the week, Friday, is what the singer is eagerly anticipating, as he plans to have fun in the city with his girl.

The second verse illustrates the struggle of working for the rich man, which is not fulfilling for the singer. He vows to change his situation one day, but for now, he looks forward to spending time with his girl and having a good time, as Friday is just around the corner.

The chorus, "tonight, I'll spend my bread, tonight, I'll lose my head, tonight, I've got to get tonight, Monday, I have Friday on my mind," reinforces the idea that the singer is living for the weekend and is willing to let loose and have fun when it arrives.

Overall, the song "Going Nowhere" is a relatable expression of the desire to escape the monotony of everyday life and live it up when the opportunity arises.

Such a real powerhouse song that gets you moving and singing along that definitely deserved to be a real hit. It probably could have still been a hit at one time. These big vocals remind one of something that Tom Jones could have easily sung.

MIKECNW

Don't know why you're mentioning anything about Tom.

Peter Baum

Actually the singer is much closer to Gene Pitney.

Matt Fuller

You're right. The reason Tom comes to mind is because this song's chorus has a chord progression similar to "It's Not Unusual" with the peppy full step maj7 to m7 and similar back beat. Def in the vein of that song. Totally in Tom's wheelhouse.

Robert Orick

@Matt Fuller And it was released by Decca Records in the UK & London/Press in the States, so maybe Tom may have covered it if he knew about it. Mike Kogel/Kennedy's vocal mannerisms sound like a combination of Gene Pitney's & Tom Jones, especially the "Hey's!" and yowls in the instrumental break that rivals Tom's shout outs to the orchestra during a fast number. Too bad it barely charted in the US (at #91 on Billboard. It should have done better.)

Tennis Vidzzz

Makes me feel like I'm walking down Hollywood Blvd in the 60s or 70s on a beautiful breezy summer or spring Sunday afternoon. So much positive energy in this masterpiece of a song. Thank you.

All their tracks were produced & arranged by Ivor Raymonde, the guy that made all Dusty Springfield's hits...

Ohhh mein Gott . . . Ich liebe dieses Lied ! ! !

Donald Jackson

I love this song. i just always wished it was better produced and not so low fi sounding. Could of been a smash #1 hit if it was produced with clearer audio.
