Cuida tu Mujer
Los Rancheros Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rumbo a santa fe.

A la mujer del zapatero
La buscaba el noticiero
Pero ella ya no quiso volver,
Ella estaba enamorada
De ese ilustre camionero
Que del pelo al camión la metió
La mujer del zapatero
Nunca más volvió.

Cuida a tu mujer,
Cuida a tu mujer,

Cuida a tu mujer,
Cuida a tu mujer,

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of Los Rancheros's song "Cuida tu Mujer," the singer tells the story of a truck driver who kidnaps the shoemaker's wife. The truck driver reassures her that nothing will happen to her and even buys bread and wine along the way, inviting her to celebrate. The singer admits to passing by the woman's house frequently and seeing her working constantly for her overweight, abusive husband. He becomes fed up with seeing such a beautiful woman enslaved by her husband and decides to kidnap her himself, falling in love with her along the way. The woman decides she doesn't want to return to her previous life and stays with the truck driver, prompting the singer to warn listeners to be careful and protect their own wives to avoid a similar fate.

The lyrics of "Cuida tu Mujer" can be interpreted in a number of ways, but overall the song seems to emphasize the importance of treating women with respect and cautioning listeners against taking them for granted. The contrast between the cruel, controlling shoemaker and the loving, adventurous truck driver highlights the dangers of underestimating women and assuming they will simply tolerate mistreatment. The fact that the woman chooses to stay with the truck driver rather than return to her old life suggests the possibility of finding happiness and love outside of societal norms.
