In 1982, three guys from Concepción, Álvaro Henríquez, Roberto Titae Lindl, and Pancho Molina started a band called Los Dick Stones, whose set list was based on songs by Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Gene Vincent. They quickly became very popular in universities, bars, and peñas around the southern city of Concepción. Given their ambition to achieve success in the Chilean mainstream, they decided to move to the capital city of Santiago and changed their name to Los Tres. In 1988 Ángel Parra joined the band and even though Los Tres is Spanish for "the three", they decided to keep the name.
During years when culture and art began to rise again -after the cultural and night life had been reduced for almost 20 years due to the military regime that had ruled Chile since 1973-, the times were right for their music to develop and their popularity to grow. They recorded 9 albums during their first stage together, from 1982 until 2000.
In 2000 the band went into an indefinite break and its members continued their musical careers in personal projects.
On 2006 Los Tres, with the exception of Pancho Molina, announced their reunion including a show in May, the festival Vive Latino in Mexico City, and a show in Santiago de Chile. The first single Camino was already released. Their tenth album (Hágalo usted mismo) was a result of this reunion. The band is still together.
Saco azul
Los Tres Lyrics

Pero dentro de mi siempre te vas a quedar
Siempre conmigo vas a estar
Mano gigante Dios, tu mano enseñaba vivir
Quiero tu saco azul y volver a ser como fui
volver a casa y verte allí
Tengo tu saco azul
Tengo tu saco azul
No voy a llorarte mas, voy a seguirte hasta el sol
Ni voy a soñar con vos, voy a usar tu corazón de león
Yo voy a usar tu corazón
No queda nada aquí, ya no hay nada que cuidar
solo es tu pecho Dios, que empuja como las olas de mar
siempre conmigo vas a estar.
The song "Saco Azul" by Los Tres reflects on the feeling of nostalgia and longing for someone or something in the past. The lyrics are melancholic and express a sense of loss and the fear of being forgotten. The first verse speaks of a blue coat that will be forgotten in winter but will always remain in the singer's heart. This line can be interpreted to convey the idea of the importance of memories and how they can endure even if the physical objects or people associated with them are gone.
The following lines show the singer's reverence for a "giant hand of God" that taught him how to live. The blue coat alluded to in the first verse is tied to his desire to return to a simpler time where he felt more innocent and carefree. The world around him may be decaying, but he holds onto the blue coat as a symbol of hope and something to cling onto.
In the refrain, the singer declares that he will not cry anymore and will use the heart of the one he is mourning as a source of strength, showing the resilience and strength in the face of tragedy. The final verse speaks of the transience of life and how the only thing that will remain is the memory of the person who touched the singer's life so profoundly.
Overall, the lyrics of "Saco Azul" are about the pain of losing someone or something dear and the importance of cherishing memories and finding peace in the midst of turmoil.
