Many of the Lost Dogs albums include at least one or two cover songs. Songs covered by the Lost Dogs include Bob Dylan's "Lord, Protect My Child," Leonard Cohen's "If It Be Your Will," The Beatles' "I'm A Loser," and Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More." They have also recorded a number of Traditional or Gospel standards such as "Dust On The Bible," and "Farther Along."
In March, 2000, shortly after the release of their Gift Horse album, Gene Eugene died in his sleep at The Green Room, his recording studio in Huntington Beach, California.
2003 saw the release of the band's first DVD, Via Chicago, a black and white concert film released by Lo-Fidelity Records. A follow-up DVD, Via Chicago (All We Left Unsaid), containing additional songs from the concert, was released in 2006.
Although the loss of Eugene is noticeable, the remaining three Lost Dogs members continue to tour and record new albums. In 2004, the band got together with longtime friend Steve Hindalong to produce a special album for their summer tour. The result was entitled Mutt, and included new acoustic versions of nine songs originally written and recorded for each band member's regular rock bands, with one new song. The following year, the band would release one of their most unusual recordings to date, the almost entirely instrumental Island Dreams.
The band's most recent project, Old Angel, was released May 2010. The band — including the newest official "dog," drummer Steve Hindalong — once again hit the road for a national tour in support of their new album.
No Ship Coming In

Crushed into the ground
But I will love you forever
It's falling apart
Hopeless and dark
But we're gonna see it
Through together
Caught in a landslide
Earthquakes and high tides
It's gonna be a rough ride
But I'll stay by your side
By grace we remain
With hands in the flame
But I will love you forever
Times may be hard
We're crippled and scarred
But we're gonna see it through together
(we're gonna see it through)
Dreams of a lifetime
Way past the deadline
We're pushing up an incline
But I believe we'll be just fine
No money to spend
(hard times are comin' again)
No ship comin' in
(We're here through the thick and the thin)
But we're gonna see it through together
Caught in a landslide
Earthquakes and high tides
It's gonna be a rough ride
But I'll stay by your side
It's all breaking down
(Times might be getting too hard)
Crushed into the ground
(Maybe we're crippled and scarred
But I will love you forever
No money to spend
No ship coming in
But we're gonna see it
Through together
The Lost Dogs, a southern rock band, delivers a thought-provoking message of love and commitment through their song "No Ship Coming In." The lyrics convey the idea that life is challenging and full of hardships, but the love shared by the two individuals in the song will withstand any difficulties that life throws their way. The opening lines, "it's all breaking down, crushed into the ground," sets a mood of despair and hopelessness. However, the song's message of hope is louder than any negative situation they may face in life.
As the song progresses, the singer talks of someone who is going through life's difficulties such as landslides, earthquakes, high tides, and broken dreams. Nonetheless, the singer promises to stay close and offer support to overcome life's difficulties, indicating unyielding love and commitment. The chorus of the song demonstrates that they may not have a lot of money, and there might not be any help coming from anywhere, but they will see it through together. By Grace, they will remain - this gives the impression that there is a Higher Power involved in the connection that the two individuals share.
