Reptilia
Lostprophets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He seemed impressed by the way you came in.
"Tell us a story
I know you're not boring"

I was afraid that you would not insist.
"You sound so sleepy
just take this, now leave me"
I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town...

Yeah, the night's not over
You're not trying hard enough,
Our lives are changing lanes
You ran me off the road,
The wait is over
I'm now taking over,
You're no longer laughing
I'm not drowning fast enough.

Now every time that I look at myself
"I thought I told you
this world is not for you"

The room is on fire as she's fixing her hair
"you sound so angry
just calm down, you found me"

I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town...

Yeah, the night's not over
You're not trying hard enough,
Our lives are changing lanes
You ran me off the road,
The wait is over
I'm now taking over,

You're no longer laughing
I'm not drowning fast enough.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lostprophets' song Reptilia tell the story of an intense and turbulent relationship between two people. The opening lines suggest that the singer has entered a room and has caught the attention of another person who wants them to tell a story. The singer admits to being reluctant at first, but eventually agrees to share something. The second verse takes on a darker tone, with the singer describing feeling "run off the road" and as if they're drowning too quickly. The chorus repeats the same lines, emphasizing the intense feelings of the singer in the moment.

The bridge of the song takes on more of an introspective tone, with the singer looking at themselves and recalling that they were warned that "this world is not for you." The juxtaposition of this line with the earlier line "tell us a story" suggests that the singer may have been seen as an outsider or "other" in the world they were living in. The final verses repeat the chorus, with the singer taking control and "taking over" as the other person is no longer laughing. The song ends with a sense of finality, as the singer has resolved to leave their tumultuous relationship behind.

@jmathis2aug

One of those songs that are way better than the original. Lostprophets were kings of B sides and covers. Not to mention the gods of intro outros.
