Jordan was one of the first black recording artists whose popularity crossed over into the mainstream white audience and who scored hits on both the "race" charts and the mainstream white pop charts. He is now acknowledged as one of the most successful African-American musicians of the 20th century, ranking fifth in the list of the all-time most successful black recording artists.
Jordan scored at least four million-selling hits during his career, regularly topping the "race" charts, as well as scoring simultaneous Top Ten hits on the white pop charts on several occasions. Many of the songs he wrote or co-wrote have become 20th century popular music classics.
With his dynamic Tympany Five bands (which also pioneered the use of electric guitar and electric organ) Jordan largely mapped out the main parameters of the classic R&B, urban blues and early rock'n'roll genres with a series of hugely influential 78 rpm discs for the Decca label that presaged virtually all of the dominant black music styles of the 1950s and 1960s and which exerted a huge influence on many leading performers in these genres.

Moo moo!
Oink oink moo!
Oink oink moo moo!
Q-q-quack! Q-q-quack!
Peep peep! Peep peep!
"Peep peep" said the chick in the barnyard pen
"Quack quack" said the duck "won't you let me in?"
"Cluck cluck cluck" said the little red hen
"Let's boogie in the barnyard"
"Baa baa" said the sheep from another bowl
"Moo moo" said the cow "let the butter roll"
"Cluck cluck cluck" said the little red hen
"Let's boogie in the barnyard"
Yes, the barnyard was jumpin'
Everybody havin' their fling
Even Old MacDonald
Had to do a little kind o' swing
"Bow wow" said the dog in the circus top
"Miaow" said the cat "now, please don't stop"
"Cluck cluck cluck" said the little red hen
"Let's boogie in the barnyard"
Yes, even Uncle Ezra
Got caught with a dozen eggs
I saw Aunt Suzie
Kill the chicken with the bandy leg
Bow wow, bow wow,
Miaow, miaow
"Cluck cluck cluck cluck" said the little red hen
"Let's boogie in the barnyard"
Peep peep, quack quack,
Cluck cluck, moo moo,
Bow wow, miaow
The song "Barnyard Boogie" by Louis Jordan is a fun and light-hearted tribute to farm animals and their sounds. The song opens with brief animal noises such as oinks, moos, quacks, and peeps. The following verses feature various animals trying to get into the barnyard party, including a duck and a little red hen. The chorus urges everyone to boogie down in the barnyard, which apparently even Old MacDonald joins in on. The song concludes with more animal noises and the little red hen leading everyone in a final boogie.
While the lyrics are fairly straightforward and revolve around animal sounds and partying, there are some interesting subtexts at play. For example, the lyrics could be interpreted as an allegory for race relations in the 1940s. Louis Jordan was a black musician who frequently performed for both black and white audiences, and his lyrics often subtly addressed racial themes. In "Barnyard Boogie," the animals can be seen as stand-ins for different racial groups, with the chorus urging everyone to come together for a good time regardless of their differences.
