But by 1992's Wasted in America, heavy metal had become commercially passΓ© and Columbia dropped them soon after its release.Jizzy Pearl used himself in a legendary publicity stunt to help album sales. This stunt, with the help of a few others, included Jizzy successfully erecting a cross on the Hollywood Sign and positioned himself on it. Love/Hate moved to the Caliber label and released Let's Rumble in May 1994, an album much more raw than their previous material featuring Darren Housholder on Guitar replacing Jon E. Love. Another label switch, to Mayhem Records, resulted in October 1995's I'm Not Happy featuring the return of Jon E. Love. In 1997 the band released Livin' off Layla. 'Til we pass out on the floor
Met a little girl with no bloomers on
When she showed me her fake I.D. I knew something was wrong
She said let's dance
Said I got a wooden leg
She's cuddly wuddly wuddly too
She's cuddly wuddly wuddly got a hold on you
Yeah you got a reputation for coming on strong
Now you're leanin' up against my dang-a-lang-a-lang-a-lang
Here we go to your bungalow
Boyfriend's on the road
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Get a little nervous
What can a poor boy say
'Bout a girl that fucks a different guy each and every day
But she's cuddly wuddly wuddly
Too bad
You don't dig dudes that play guitar
You got a thing for drummers
You got a thing for men with scars
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Throbbing pulsating gyrating hyperventilating 'til we pass out
On the floor
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
Put the spit on
The lyrics of Love/Hate's song Spit describe a wild and intense sexual encounter. The first stanza sets the scene with vivid imagery, describing bodily responses - throbbing, pulsating, gyrating, and hyperventilating - culminating in the participants passing out on the floor. The second stanza introduces a girl that the singer meets, who appears to be underage but presents a fake ID anyway. Despite warning signs, the singer agrees to dance with her, despite his own physical limitations - he has a wooden leg. The girl then appears to make a sexual advance, suggesting she wants to see the singer on his knees. The final lines of the stanza describe how the girl has a hold over him - she's cuddly wuddly wuddly.
The third stanza sees the singer grappling with his feelings and recognizing that he's out of his element. He's nervous and unsure of what to say to a girl who sleeps with different guys each day. Despite this, he can't resist her - she's still cuddly wuddly wuddly. The final lines of the song repeat the chorus, putting emphasis on the repeated phrase 'Put the spit on.'
