Apocalypse
LoveLike Violence Lyrics

There I was 12 old
Middle school hell yo
I'd have stayed there all day and all night if it meant missing out on
When you came home lit
Eyes tomato red
Let the symphony of angry words begin
Screaming getting kind of louder than usual
So, I sneak on over to the stairwell
Creep back heartbeat like a heart attack
Don't let him hear you
here he come
Oh, boom bat
Should I stay or should I run
Nowhere to go
Six people in a two bedroom oh
There he go
Over to the dresser drawer
I wonder to myself What
What's he need socks for
He turn around that's not a sock
That's a glock right
Wonder what other kids do at home at night
Wonder what other kids do

No, I'm
Not scared of a wrecking ball
So yeah
Go on and bring it on
I'll stand
Back up again
And thank God for it
This apocalypse
Cuz to make
The wall the strongest
It takes
Some of the hardest
bricks
And you were one of them
So, I thank God for it
This apocalypse

He walks over to the bed
me and my brother on
Stay still like we're dead
Bear Grylls on him
But it doesn't
Work never does, does it
Back then he wasn't
Can't make sense of it here
He just stares
Looks us in the eye
Says are you scared
Wanna say yes but there's no air
Vocal cords paralyzed with fear and I
Wonder what it's gonna feel like
If it's gonna feel like that one time
I put my hands in the dish water
And hit that knife
But then just like
That turns right back, back, back
Back toward her
with that gun
Run to the phone
Dial 911
Put it to my ear
Someone else is on
Hurry up ma
Here he come
Hang it up
Aw come on
Please don't let him kill my mom
Breathe out once
Wait for the gun
Whoop, whoop
Thank God here they come

No, I'm
Not scared of a wrecking ball
So yeah
Go on and bring it on
I'll stand
Back up again
And thank God for it
This apocalypse
Cuz to make
The wall the strongest
It takes
Some of the hardest
bricks
And you were one of them
So, I thank God for it
This apocalypse

Fast forward
Another night another height
Title fight
Evander and Mike
And it's like it might never end
11th round and I hear the backdoor slam uh
Hurry up kids
You got one bag two minutes
So, I get what I can and I throw it in the van
Yeah, it's funny what's important to you when you're a kid
Then just then uh
Here he come across the lawn Uh
Blacked out beast mode gone
She hit the pedal and start to gun
Then he jumps on it
Hood ornament
Pounds on the glass with a fist
Hulk smash it
Screamin at us like this
Need an exorcist
Next, he rips the wipers right off of it
Sat shotgun for this
Got a Heavenly Father
He's better than you
Does everything that you'll never do
Loves me leads me sees me frees me
Builds me up
Will never leave me
Never make me feel like I was nothin
Like I wasn't good enough
Like I didn't deserve your love
Deserve your love
Deserve love
No, I'm
Not scared of a wrecking ball
So yeah
Go on and bring it on
I'll stand
Back up again
And thank God for it
This apocalypse
Cuz to make
The wall the strongest
It takes
Some of the hardest
bricks
And you were one of them

So, I thank God for it
This apocalypse

Overall Meaning

These poignant lyrics from LoveLike Violence's song "Apocalypse" paint a vivid picture of a young person's experience with domestic violence and the resilience they find in the face of adversity. The verses describe a scene from the singer's childhood, where they witness their parent coming home intoxicated and escalating into a violent confrontation. The fear and uncertainty in the moment are palpable, as the singer contemplates whether to stay and confront the situation or attempt to escape from the turmoil unfolding before them.

The lyrics convey a sense of helplessness and vulnerability, as the singer and their sibling find themselves trapped in a tense and dangerous situation with no clear way out. The mention of "six people in a two-bedroom oh" highlights the crowded and cramped living conditions that may have contributed to the tension and volatility in the household. The use of imagery such as a gun being mistaken for a sock brings a stark reality to the trauma and confusion experienced by children growing up in environments marked by violence and instability.

Despite the overwhelming fear and chaos surrounding them, the singer finds a source of inner strength and defiance in the face of the "apocalypse" unfolding in their home. The metaphor of the apocalypse is used to symbolize the destructive forces at play in their lives, yet the singer refuses to be broken by them. They find solace in the notion that adversity can be a catalyst for building resilience and inner fortitude, likening the process to building a strong wall out of the hardest bricks, with the difficult experiences they endure shaping them into a stronger individual.

As the song progresses, we see the singer reflect on subsequent incidents of violence and upheaval, culminating in a dramatic escape from their abuser with the help of their mother. The intense imagery of the father figure turning into a "blacked out beast mode" and physically attacking the family's vehicle underscores the terrifying nature of the situation. In the face of such trauma, the singer finds a sense of peace and protection in their faith, describing their Heavenly Father as a source of unconditional love and support that contrasts starkly with the abusive figure they have known.

Ultimately, the lyrics convey a message of survival, resilience, and the power of faith and self-empowerment in overcoming adversity. The singer's journey from fear and vulnerability to strength and defiance speaks to the human capacity to endure and rise above traumatic experiences, finding a sense of gratitude even in the midst of chaos and destruction. LoveLike Violence's "Apocalypse" serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of those who have faced violence and hardship, finding a way to rebuild and thrive in the aftermath.

The lyrics popping on the screen are helping to tell the story. A story that so many across the land have lived.

Loved her sweatshirt! Being "old", I can appreciate seeing the lyrics imposed in the video as it helps me to understand her fast-rap style and not have to wonder "what is she saying" 😂

Natalie Hines

Respectfully disagree - I think the lyrics are amazing. Tells a hard story and maybe this helps someone. I love this - love all their music actually.

mata hari

I love it too, but it’s teaching resistance with a touch of despair and hope, the ´strenght of the self’ and how to go through ´apocalypse’ using it.. life’s being up and downs.

Maybe I would rather have different lyrics because there is no ending even if you dis identify from the self, there are no answer, nothing.

Every time it ll hit harder and harder.

In my opinion changing the entire stream going through you is helping. I am not sure how this would help
