For You
Loveless Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Wasted my time

Never out of sight, but always out of mind
Now here I am at the end of the line
Can we just rewind, or is this where we lie?
How can we stand, when we fall out of time?

No, I’m just a little bit over it
What you say, what you say about me anymore
I’m just a little bit over it
What you say, what you say about anything

Wasted my time
Why would I ever waste another line on you, you
Crossing the line
Why would I ever tell another lie for you, you

Is this what you like? Is it all that you planned?
Washing me away like a name in the sand
No, I don’t wanna be however you see me
Head buried in the clouds maybe, but my hearts on the ground

No, I’m just a little bit over it
What you say, what you say about me anymore
I’m just a little bit over it
What you say, what you say about anything

Wasted my time
Why would I ever waste another line on you, you
Crossing the line
Why would I ever tell another lie for you, you

Wasted my time
(You wasted my time)
Why would I ever waste another line on you, you
Crossing the line
Why would I ever tell another lie for you, you
(For you)
Wasted my time
Why would I ever waste another line on you, you
(For you)

Crossing the line
Why would I ever tell another lie for you, you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Loveless's song "For You" delve into themes of emotional exhaustion, disillusionment, and moving on from a toxic relationship or situation. The songwriter expresses feelings of frustration and disappointment at feeling disregarded and undervalued, symbolized by the repetition of the phrase "Wasted my time." The line "Never out of sight, but always out of mind" highlights a sense of being neglected or overlooked despite being physically present in the other person's life. The lyricist questions whether it is possible to turn back time or salvage the relationship, or if it is better to accept the reality of the situation and move on.

The chorus of the song amplifies the singer's sense of detachment and disinterest in the opinions or words of the other person. They assert their independence and self-worth by stating that they are "just a little bit over it" and no longer willing to invest emotional energy in someone who doesn't appreciate them. The repetition of questioning "What you say about me anymore" and "What you say about anything" suggests a turning point where the singer is no longer seeking validation or approval from the other person.

The lyrics convey a sense of betrayal and deception, as the singer reflects on crossing boundaries or compromising their own values for the sake of the other person. There is a realization that the relationship was built on lies and manipulation, as symbolized by the line "Why would I ever tell another lie for you." The imagery of being "Washed away like a name in the sand" adds a poignant visual of feeling erased or insignificant in the eyes of the other person, leading to a desire to reclaim their sense of self-worth and identity.

In the closing verses of the song, the singer asserts their desire to break free from the toxic dynamic and regain control over their own narrative. The repetition of "Why would I ever waste another line on you" emphasizes a shift towards prioritizing personal boundaries and self-respect. The song ends with a tone of empowerment and liberation, as the lyricist declares their refusal to continue investing time and energy into a relationship or person that does not honor their worth.

January 27, 2023 WOW, you got it right Six....I am friends with his father and we didn't even know but, had GREAT HOPES. As a worldwide film/music publicist at Warner bros Studio one never knows about these things. We've worked with great bands over the years. It appears Julian and his band are on a very fast trajectory now. This month London, Cardiff, Manchester. Birmingham. Boston and then 8 venues more. The future looks bright. My ONLY neg. is everyone will want a piece of this poor kid. Other bands. managers, agents, etc etc. he will sometimes feel alone and just need moments ALONE. (A song?). lol Seriously, his dad saved my life so I feel close to his family now and want the very best for him and his band. Take care - James , Malibu, California 2023, actor. VO. songwriter.
