Lowell George's first band, The Factory, formed in 1965. Members included future Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward (he replaced Dallas Taylor in Sept 1966), and Martin Kibbee (a.k.a. Fred Martin) who would later co-write several Little Feat songs with George, including "Dixie Chicken" and "Rock & Roll Doctor". Frank Zappa produced two tracks for The Factory. Following the disbanding of The Factory, George briefly joined the band The Standells. There followed a few months in late 1968 to early 1969 where George was a member of Zappa's band, the Mothers of Invention.

After leaving the Mothers of Invention, George invited fellow musicians to form a new band, which they named Little Feat. As Feat's primary motive force and chief songwriter, he sang, played slide guitar and produced much of their output of eight albums...plus "Hoy Hoy," a collection of live recordings and studio outtakes released posthumously. Recorded one amazing solo LP. Died at the age of 34. An autopsy showed that he died of an accidental drug overdose.

With Little Feat, Lowell crafted a completely unique-sounding band. His approach to the slide or "bottleneck" guitar was not based in the blues from whence it originated, but was rather tailored specifically for the New Orleans-style funk, jazz-tinged improvisations and straight-ahead rock which the band played so brilliantly.

Lowell became a major influence on other artists such as Linda Ronstadt and the Rolling Stones. Even a producer for the Grateful Dead.

Notorious for his hard partying life style, died of a heart attack at age 34. The rock world lost a musician of singular talent and vision with his passing.

Lowell's daughter, Inara George, is a solo artist and member of the duo The Bird and the Bee.

Well musicians are musicians - same for most artists. Been
there, done that 45 years. Those who are lily white shouldn't
judge, Bible says "Judge not or be judged". And pain issues
could be involved - I herniated 5 discs at age 13! My conservative
Republican evangelical relatives hate my guts even though I worked
1 job (gas company construction & repair plus serviceman) 30
years and played 55!!! Fellow employees called me "(Michael the)
Archangel" because I once took 4 hits of LSD & saw God!!!
And my manager was a Jehovah's Witness!!! Someone up there
must really like me, even though I was so naughty!

I loved this man and HIS music so very much. He knew how to captain the ship, make the songs SONGS, not insane jams, although he could do it if he wanted. I think about him almost every day, and miss him like crazy. I hope to meet Lowell, and Beethoven in Heaven. Rest, sweet man.

I was 16 years old when this song was recorded. At that time I listened to Deep Purple, Meat Loaf, Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep. I wasn´t ready for Lowell George who was one of the best musicians of the 70´s. I regret that.

I have been playing guitar and bass off and on as a hobby since I was 14 years old or so. My favorite instrument to play is the stand up bass. I worked as an audio engineer in a rehearsal studio for 18 months. I learned how to do the monitor mix primarily, no front of house stuff yet.

I like heroin. Used it 45 years for my 5 herniated discs. Went to the
methadone clinic & they said "You don't have an addiction issue, you
have a pain issue" & sent me to a doctor. He gave me morphine.
Someone up there likes me!!! It took 45 years to get help!!!

never missed work unless I was actually sick with flu or colds! Worked
until retirement! Could work sick with a cold on heroin & sometimes did!

Oh the paradox and contradiction. I've known a few over the years that discovered this powerful magical for some powder. It filled a void and they were actually able to function better with it than without. Worked, had successful marriages, jobs, even businesses and children.
