Lower Than Atlantis Lyrics

I'm going out of my mind, until she walks in
They say love is blind, but my vision is fine
Angels sing, when I look in her eyes
I'm like
Emily, won't you sit next to me
But a boy can dream
It sucks, you're cool and I'm not
But they say, every dog gets its day
No chance at all, I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree anyway.
I'm like a dog in heat, and I'm on a short lead
We never play the same games, because you're out of my league
You don't even know my name, but you see me every day
I must be invisible, I just wish that I could say
Hey!
Emily, won't you sit next to me
You've got such a pretty face, I'm a waste of space
But a boy can dream
It sucks, you're cool and I'm not
But they say, every dog gets its day
No chance at all, I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree anyway
Emily, won't you sit next to me
Such a pretty face, I'm a waste of space
But a boy can dream
Emily, won't you sit next to me
You've got such a pretty face, I'm a waste of space
But a boy can dream
It sucks, you're cool and I'm not
But they say, every dog gets its day
No chance at all, I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree anyway
I was barking, up the wrong tree anyway
Yeah, yeah
I was barking, up the wrong tree anyway
In Lower Than Atlantis's song "Emily," the singer is smitten with a girl named Emily. He is trapped in a monotonous routine, as seen when he wakes up to his "alarm clock ring[ing] and another day in hell begins." However, when Emily comes into his life, everything changes. He mentions that "they say love is blind, but my vision is fine." In other words, he sees Emily for who she is, and he believes she is perfect. He compares himself to a dog in heat when he says, "I'm like a dog in heat, and I'm on a short lead." He is restrained from approaching Emily because he feels like she is out of his league. He's never spoken to her before, but he sees her daily. The singer is invisible to Emily, and he wishes he could tell her how he feels.
The chorus of the song highlights the singer's obsession with Emily. He asks her to sit next to him, acknowledges that she's pretty and he's a waste of space. However, regardless of his insecurities, he still dreams of being with her. He admits that she's cool, and he's not, but believes that every dog has its day, implying that someday he'll have a chance with her. In the last verse, he realizes that he's barking up the wrong tree, meaning he's wasting his time pursuing something that won't happen, but he continues to dream regardless.

One of the uks most under rated bands. Saw them twice on tour, nothing has come close to their sound since

I really like this, even if it sounds a bit 'poppier' than their previous material. Goes to show you don't have to burst people's ear drums and throw yourself against the walls all the time to qualify as a rock band. It's a very well written song and should be treated as such. :)
