Since 2001, they have played between 150 and 200 shows a year across the United States and Canada. They have released eight full-length albums, the latest entitled Women & Work.

Ben Nichols' previous band was Red 40 in which he played alongside Colin Brooks and Steve Kooms.
In late 2008 the band announced they had signed a four album deal with Universal Music Group. Their album, 1372 Overton Park, was released October 6, 2009.

I wasted my heart
And the night is so cold
I wasted my tears
And I wasted my words
And I wish I could hold
You tonight
Just tonight
It won't be tonight
I wasted my fists
I wasted my arms
Well these tatoos will slowly fade
I wasted my strength
And I wasted my youth
And I'd trade the rest of my day
For you tonight
Just tonight
Well, it won't be tonight
It won't be tonight
and one day I'll stop wasting my life away
Hell, I'll come through for you
Prove myself to you
Girl, I'll show you what I can do
it won't be tonight
The lyrics to Lucero's "Wasted" are a poignant reflection on lost love and regret. The singer is consumed by thoughts of what could have been, ruminating on all of the things he's wasted related to his relationship with his former partner. He considers everything that he gave up and all the sacrifices he made, and wonders what he could have done differently to keep their love alive.
The opening lines, "I wasted my hands, I wasted my heart, and the night is so cold" speak to the physical and emotional toll that the singer's love has taken on him. The use of the word "wasted" is particularly powerful, implying that his efforts were useless and futile. He goes on to say that he has wasted his tears and his words, which suggest that he's communicated his feelings to his former partner but to no avail.
The second verse picks up where the first left off, with the singer lamenting the fact that he's "wasted" his fists and arms, presumably from fighting for their love. He remarks that even his tattoos will slowly fade, metaphorically suggesting that even the physical evidence of his love will eventually disappear. He concludes this verse by wishing that he could trade the rest of his days for just one more chance to be with his former partner.
The final verse is a glimmer of hope in an otherwise desperate situation. The singer declares that he will one day stop wasting his life away and come through for his former partner. He promises to show her what he can do, an indication that he's ready to learn from his mistakes and embark on a journey of self-improvement. However, he acknowledges that it won't be tonight, implying that he still has a ways to go before he's fully ready to win back his love.
Overall, the lyrics to "Wasted" paint a picture of an individual who is grappling with the aftermath of a broken relationship. They showcase the raw emotion and vulnerability that accompany love and loss, and offer a relatable representation of heartache.
