Madness
Lucius Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I had a dream where
You were standing there
With a gun up to my head
You were asking how it felt, to which I said
"I can not lie, there is a tingling down my spine"
You have revenge, I'll have it too
What's mine is yours and yours is mine
Then you laughed, you said I was a poet
And you loved my use of words
We had better get a move on
Or they'll find us
My heartbeat didn't get a moment
It was racing up the hill
We could be doomed
Time's after us, we're after time

Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet
Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet

Scene has changed, we're running through the airport
Catching escalator rides
Down and up again
We never find the flight
My friend is running in her wedding dress
She left her gifts behind
I'll never figure out just what we're trying to find
I only know
Time's after us, we're after time

Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet
Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet

Wake up, it's not real life
It's not living, it's not living proof
How do I, do I justify staying in between the lines?
There's just no good excuse

Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet
Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet

Maybe I'll drive myself to madness
Spinning in circles
Don't have it figured out just yet

Maybe
May, may, maybe

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lucius's song, "Madness," describe a dream where the singer is being held at gunpoint by someone seeking revenge. Despite the danger, the singer is able to maintain their composure and even appreciate the poetic language that their captor acknowledges. The two then take off running from pursuers, eventually finding themselves in an airport with a seemingly important but unclear objective. The dream ends unresolved and leaves the singer questioning their balance between taking risks and maintaining a safe and stable life.

One interpretation of this song could be that it explores the theme of balance and the struggle to find the right mix of adventure and stability in life. The singer's dream represents the chaos and excitement of taking risks and pursuing passions, but the constant pursuit of time and the unknown can also lead to madness. There is also the possibility that the dream is a manifestation of the singer's subconscious fears and desires, as they are faced with danger and uncertainty.

I have just discovered this awesome band. I'm in LOVE!!!!

I just heard this song yesterday while shopping at an Anthropologie store. They were playing it over the store speakers and I stopped mid-shopping and stood still, listening to this. It's not often a song makes me stop and take notice; especially a song that's played for ambience at a retail store. I listened to the lyrics and found the song via google (I didn't have an app installed that recognized songs at the time). Anyway, immediately hooked.

+Timothy Alpheaus They are fantastic. But to really appreciate them you've got to see them live. Exhilarating. I've seen a lot of of shows over the years(I'm 50) and it doesn't get any better Lucius. Their shows are magic.
