But that could have been me
I'm aware that I'm not immune to life's difficulties and tragedies.

Water is a metaphor for something vital and necessary for life, whether it be physical or emotional.

I walked out to the grieving ocean
I seek solace and comfort in the vastness of nature.

I lay down by the thirsty sea
I rest my weary soul by the water's edge.

I found a man there dying without water
I encountered someone who is suffering and in need of something essential.

He looked just like me
I feel a connection to this person, as though they could be me in a different circumstance.

I have come from the walls of worry
I've experienced anxiety and stress in my life.

I fled the wounded streets of war
I've witnessed the devastation and trauma that comes with conflict.

I walked a thousand miles in the wrong direction
I feel like I've made mistakes and gone down the wrong path in life.

But what was it for?
I question the purpose and meaning of my experiences.

I am a of the guilty
I carry feelings of shame and regret with me.

I am the water on the ground
I'm the remnants of something that was once alive and vital, now just a puddle of water on the ground.

I am collectively the face of the lost
I represent a larger group of people who are searching for something they've lost.

Who long to be found
We all have a desire to belong and feel seen and understood.

We drink to love and to deception
We turn to vices and distractions to cope with the pain of life, whether it be love or deception.

We drink to charity and greed
We have conflicting motivations and desires, ranging from selflessness to selfishness.

We drink to numb the very thing we've become
We try to escape from the reality of who we've become, often through harmful means.

When its water we need
We need something vital and nourishing, both physically and emotionally, in order to truly thrive.
