Common Death
Lume Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's in my fate either way
A common death awaits us every day
Right on time to fade away
Close enough to feel the weight
Tangled up, held in place
Give it up, release your hate
Hold me to
Cardinal rule
I'm not only
Only you
Cardinal rule
I'm only
The lyrics of Lume's song "Common Death" convey a sense of existential reflection and acceptance of the inevitable. The opening lines, "Sometimes I get lost along the way, It's in my fate either way," suggest a contemplation of the uncertainties and challenges one encounters in life. This notion is further emphasized by the phrase "A common death awaits us every day," indicating that death is an inescapable part of the human experience.
The repetition of the line "Right on time to fade away" emphasizes the transient nature of life, suggesting that regardless of how lost or confused one may feel, death will ultimately come at the appointed time. The subsequent verse explores the emotions and complexities of existence, where one's feelings of being entangled and held in place are contrasted with a call to let go and release hate. This could be interpreted as an invitation to embrace a more peaceful and accepting mindset.
The chorus, with its repeating lines "Hold me to, Cardinal rule, I'm not only, Only you," may symbolize a longing for guidance and a reminder of certain principles or values that can provide a sense of grounding. It raises the idea that while one is unique, there are universal concepts or rules that should be upheld. The final repetition of "Cardinal rule, I'm only," further emphasizes the individual's recognition and adherence to these fundamental principles.
Overall, the lyrics of "Common Death" delve into themes of existential awareness, acceptance of mortality, and the pursuit of inner peace amidst the complexities of life.
