Bittersweet
Luna-C & Lowercase Lyrics

Bruises from where you've kissed me
Smoke clouds, too much whisky
But all I want is you
Long drives with cuban coffee
Your eyes they kill me softly
I wish they'd follow through
But after all this time
Seeing you I'm still mesmerized
Even though your words seem to taste like lies
When I see your face I get butterflies
You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet
You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet
Tattoos like poison ivy
Marooned, your voice delights me
Like strawberry perfume
Sit watching scarlet skylines
So beautiful that I don't mind
The bad things that you do
But after all this time
Seeing you I'm still mesmerized
Even though your words seem to taste like lies
When I see your face I get butterflies
You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet
You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bittersweet
But it's not fair
You're the only one I ever, ever, ever cared about yeah
About yeah
And it's not fair
I'm the only one you never, never, never cared about yeah
About yeah
You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet

You're so bittersweet, so bittersweet
So bitter, bitter, bitter, bittersweet

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Bittersweet" by Luna-C & Lowercase speak to the conflicting emotions and experiences of being in a complicated relationship. The first stanza describes the physical and emotional toll that being with this person takes on the singer - bruises from kissing, clouded memories from too much whisky. Despite this, they admit that all they want is to be with this person. The second stanza paints a more romantic picture of the relationship, with references to long drives, scarlet skylines, and the scent of strawberry perfume. The singer is willing to overlook the bad things this person does because they are so enamored with them.

However, the chorus of the song highlights the titular bittersweetness of the relationship. The singer acknowledges that despite the intensity of their feelings, the words of this person taste like lies. They still get butterflies when they see them, but it's a mixed feeling. This person is so bittersweet - both intensely bitter and sweet at the same time. The bridge of the song adds another layer of complexity, with the singer admitting that it's not fair that they care so much about someone who doesn't care about them in return.

Overall, "Bittersweet" captures the confusing, contradictory emotions that can come with being in a complex relationship. The singer is torn between their desire to be with this person and their realization that the relationship is not healthy or fair. The song has a dreamy, melancholic quality that fits the wistful nature of the lyrics.

Random fact about this track, it has the word Taffy in parentheses because the other 3 tracks all ended up with parentheses words in the titles but unlike the rest this had no reason to have them so The Lowercase just used the very first word in his head! Normally that first random word would be aardvark but on this day it was Taffy!
