This hits me hard for a different reason because 3 and a half years ago, I lost one of my dogs. and i recently lost another one. Their names were Shaggy and Kaylee. And it hits hard because their deaths left battle scars on me. And im trying to keep on fighting, but its hard. But i still hold onto the belief that things will get better. And even though we are worlds apart, we are always together

i sang this song to my mom years ago in the car.. i got taken from her by a social worker 8 months ago. my mom has caused me so much pain. but i love and miss her so much. and i would do anything to be with her again. i call her everyday and most days i get no answer. just like the song says "when all of the signs say that i should forget her" im trying so so hard to forget and move on.. im not what's important to her because if i was she would've tried her best to change her ways and get me back. this is my song to her.. and it means so much to me and hits hard because i literally sang it to her. because of her i have battle scars. everyone questions why i keep giving her chances after chances.. i honestly don't know. i love her and i see potential in her that nobody else does... i just want my mom back.

Sending hugs to you! It'll get better. I'm 32 now. I've always thought of this song in a very similar way! My mom was abusive and I like to edit fanvideos as a hobby, and this song I have been feeling inspired to vid it for the TV show Shameless (The US version) about all the Gallagher kids towards their bipolar mother who abandoned them, who failed them. I feel like it'll be such a powerful fanvideo. This song feels so intensely perfect for this kind of dynamic.

Edited to add, after that comment below: or, actually, you can just be an atheist like me and healing from childhood trauma is still very possible. Hope and optimism don't have to have anything to do with believing in any particular religious or spiritual beliefs.

My girlfriend was in the same situation and was in foster care for years. She talked to me about her mom and it’s the exact same thing you said here. And the only thing you can do Is give everything to GOD. God is the only person the can change peoples life and he truly does amazing things when you put all your faith into him. Pray about your mom and just everything in general and than eventually you’re relationship with god will be strong and you’ll build up enough courage to talk to your mom about god and tell her that you prayed for her and for y’all’s relationship and eventually god will get to her and even if not you won’t be able to forget her but you’ll be able to forgive her.

Physical wounds may heal fast but the pain you keep inside you hurts the most and takes the most effort to heal. The only good thing about being broken is that once you are beyond repair nobody can push you down further because you become used to the pain. It’s funny how people tell you that it gets better but does it ever truly become better? Maybe for a moment but once somebody is broken beyond repair they become unfixable and something is always going to go wrong no matter what… we just have to be strong enough to take whatever comes our way whether that be emotionally, physically, or psychologically. 🥲
