Lazers
Lupe Fiasco Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We want substance in the place of popularity.
We want to think our own thoughts.
We want love not lies.
We want knowledge, understanding, and peace.
We will not lose because we are not losers
We are lazers.
In these lyrics, Lupe Fiasco is expressing a sense of nonconformity and resistance to societal pressure to adhere to certain norms and values. He emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and maintaining a strong sense of individuality rather than conforming to what is popular or socially accepted. This is evident in lines such as "We will not compromise who we are to be accepted by the crowd" and "We want substance in the place of popularity."
Additionally, the lyrics highlight a desire for deeper and more meaningful connections with others, as opposed to surface-level or dishonest relationships. This is represented in lines such as "We want love not lies" and "We want knowledge, understanding, and peace." By using the metaphor of "lazers," Fiasco suggests that those who hold these values and refuse to compromise their sense of self are strong and powerful, and will ultimately emerge victorious.

The thought of this song...
I was a child and I had nothing but good memories. The "stress" back then was nothing compared to today. Back then was just friends, crushes and innocent drama. Today is bills, work and trying to catch up on laundry while holding no social life what so ever.
If I would've know how life would be today, I'd of cherished those days way more back then.
