When Lux was formed in 2001, PJ Tepe and Adam Loporto had good reason to come together and do something productive with their frustrations, considering the state of the world and music that specific year. Having no serious musical aspirations at first, PJ and Adam came together to just do what was natural and have a good time. After months and months of writing and home recording, it was decided that maybe Lux start playing some shows. It was then that this "thing" was named Lux Courageous.
After some time of showing up to Long Island hardcore shows with nothing more than acoustic guitars, it was decided that there was still another step to be taken in the evolution of Lux. With the addition of Chris Valentino and Jani Zubkovs, the music started taking on a more aggressive sound but still staying true to the acoustic guitar sound that started everything in the first place. Playing shows on Long Island quickly turned into playing shows all over the tri-state area.
With an independently released EP in hand, Lux started getting the right kind of attention as well as a phone call from Triple Crown Records in late 2003. Adding the piano expertise of Justin Williams and signing to Triple Crown within a month of each other had finally put Lux where, they feel, the powers that be had always intended them to be. Lux headed into the studio to record their first full-length record (Reasons That Keep the Ground Near) in the summer of 2004 with the confidence that the result would make a more than noticeable dent on the music scene at present.
People frequently ask, "What does Lux Courageous sound like?" The answer has yet to be determined. Every single song written has a totally different feel to it. Some are killer pop songs. Others are mature rock ballads. Desperate vocals, brilliant guitars, and graceful piano, with technical and innovative rhythm reinforcement, provide a formula for songs that not one person can care to forget.

This is all we could make of all you believed
Wherever the should be has gone
We can lay our collars like a fond farewell
And over their heads it keeps hanging like a stone
And the longer they stare
You know that the more it's gonna hurt
They just keep losing sleep
Fools will believe, fools will believe in us now
We made up our minds
This is all we could make of all you believed
Wherever the should be has gone
We can lay our collars down
Over their heads, it keeps hanging like a stone
And the longer they stare
You know that's the more it's gonna hurt
They just keep losing sleep
What's wrong with everyone around this town?
Fools will believe, fools will believe in us now
Hey, fools will believe in us now
Hey, fools will believe in us now
Save breath and hope for the best
Just in time to save these idle hands
Save breath, maybe it's been far too long
Must we spell it on our chests?
How can we make you believe?
What's wrong with everyone around this town?
Fools will believe, fools will believe in us now
Hey, fools will believe in us now
Hey, fools will believe, believe in us now
Lux Courageous's song "This Town" is a commentary on the state of the society and the people as a whole, highlighting how beliefs and values have changed and how the world has become a place where people are constantly questioning their own righteousness. The lyrics "We've made up our minds, This is all we could make of all you believed, Wherever the should be has gone, We can lay our collars like a fond farewell" suggest that people can no longer distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, and have resorted to justifying their actions by convincing themselves that it is the only thing they can do. The line "And over their heads it keeps hanging like a stone" suggests that the guilt and shame of what they have done will always be looming over them.
The lyrics also highlight the disconnect between the people and the society they live in, with the lines "What's wrong with everyone around this town? Fools will believe, fools will believe in us now" indicating that there is widespread disbelief and skepticism in the world, and the people who believe in a better society are often viewed as fools. The chorus "Fools will believe, fools will believe in us now" suggests that even though the people may be viewed as foolish, they still hold onto hope, and they believe that change is possible.
Overall, "This Town" is a warning about the current state of the world and how we must strive to be better, to change our ways and to believe in a better tomorrow. It is a call to action for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and to work towards building a society based on moral and ethical values.
