Easy To Be Hard
Lynn Kellogg Lyrics

How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold
How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about being proud
How about I need a friend, I need a friend
How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about being proud
How about I need a friend, I need a friend
How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be proud, easy to say no
Easy to be gone, easy to say no
Come on, easy to get read
Easy to say no
But too easy to be cold
Easy to say no
But too easy to say no
The lyrics of Lynn Kellogg's song "Easy to be Hard" are a critique of people's propensity to be heartless, cruel, proud, and indifferent towards others. The singer expresses her bewilderment and disappointment on how people can ignore their friends and be apathetic towards social injustice, despite caring about strangers. She argues that it is easy to be proud and to say no, but it takes more effort to be compassionate and empathetic towards others. The singer, who is hung up on someone, pleads with them to be her friend and questions whether they only care about their pride and not her feelings.
The song reflects on the societal attitudes prevalent during the 60s and 70s, amid the civil rights movement, anti-war protests, and women's liberation movement. The lyrics highlight the struggles of marginalized people who are often overlooked, and the need for those who care to be proactive in addressing social injustices. The song advocates for compassion and speaks against indifference and selfishness.

Nearly 55 years after first hearing it, the soundtrack of HAIR remains in my regular rotation. This is one of the sweetest, yet saddest songs of the show, and is so feelingly rendered by this passionate young singer.
RIP, Lynn Kellogg.

I knew Lynn Kellogg at UWM in our freshman year. She was one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen...before or since...and this was before I had ever heard her sing. Unbelievable combination. Then I just learned a few days ago that she tragically died from the WuFlu last November and I'm heart-broken. Wish I could find her sister Edie, who was equally talented and gorgeous, to tell her how sorry I am.
John Simpers
Ede lives in Ukiah, CA and her last name is Morris. Lynn's husband John.

@John Simpers Thank you so much for your reply....and let me say again to you and Ede how very, very sorry I am to learn about Lynn. I often thought of trying to contact her while she was in San Diego as I was frequently there, years ago, since my parents lived in Solana Beach. I'll never forget her.....

@Primebaker I just had a LIVE CHRISTMAS CONCERT she did digitally remastered and a song entitled "Kindred Spirit" which she said was our song. She was my life and the only reason I care to continue is to keep her music going.I almost forgot about hundreds of songs I recorded for her as her sound engineer when she practiced for live performances. It is TREASURE. John

I knew Lynn at UW Madison '64-65, her senior year and my freshman year. Such vitality and vivacity. I am deeply saddened by her passing.
