Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Harrison’s eponymous debut album with Interscope Records was released in April 1998, and sold over a million copies in the United States, producing the gold-certified top ten single “It’s All About Me” featuring Sisqó. In addition to her solo work, Mýa was also a featured artist with Ol’ Dirty Bastard on Pras’ 1998 Grammy Award-nominated hit, “Ghetto Superstar”, from the Bulworth soundtrack and “Take Me There” from The Rugrats Movie soundtrack, with Blackstreet and Mase.
Her second studio album, platinum-selling Fear of Flying, was released in 2000 and became a success stateside and worldwide, with lead single “Case of the Ex” becoming Mýa’s breakthrough hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100, number three on the UK Singles Chart, and number one on the Australian Singles Chart. A year after, Harrison won her first Grammy Award for the worldwide number-one hit “Lady Marmalade,” a cover version she recorded alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Pink for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge! (2001).
The singer’s third album Moodring was released in July 2003 stateside and eventually certified gold by the RIAA. It peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 selling more than 113,000 in its first week of sales, making it Mýa’s highest first week sales ever. The first single, the Missy Elliott-produced “My Love Is Like…Wo,” became a top twenty hit in the U.S. due to its success on mainstream radio.
Following several label changes, Mýa’s often-delayed fourth studio album, Liberation (2007), received a download-release in Japan only and led to her 2008 Japan-exclusive album Sugar & Spice.
Having expanded her career to acting and product endorsement deals, Harrison has been engaged in product endorsement deals with brands such as Coca-Cola, Iceberg, Tommy Hilfiger, and Motorola and has appeared in films such as Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004), Shall We Dance? (2004) and Cursed (2005). In 2002, she had a supporting role in the film adaptation of the 1975 Broadway musical Chicago, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Mýa is currently working on her 6th studio album due this summer and to be released on her own independent label, entitled Planet 9. She’s recently signed a new deal with Young Empire Music Group and slated to release a new mixtape called Beauty & The Streets Vol.1
After the Rain

Ohh, why did you go? (Why did you go?)
Every day, I'm lost without you
Ohh, I just don't know (I just don't know)
We were laughing and joking like nothing
Then you're taken from me all the sudden
Ohh, why did you leave me? (Why did you leave me?)
When I needed you there you would listen
I'd seen a rainbow yesterday
Remember you used to say
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day
After the rain, change comes, nothing stays the same
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day
After the rain, things gonna change
There's no more pain, after the rain
Memories falling on my pillow
Ohh, I hear that song (and I hear that song)
They say that you don't know what somebody really truly means
Until they're gone (until they're gone)
You were my homie, my nigga, my sister
And I'm tryin' so hard, but I miss you
Ohh, how can this be? (How can this be?)
Doors would open and with you, I'd walk through
Now I'm here by myself, girl, I need you
No one could ever fill your shoes
You're one in a million, you
Ooh, you used to say
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day (after the rain)
After the rain, change comes, nothing stays the same (yeah)
(Things will get much better, yeah)
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day
After the rain, things gonna change, there's no more pain
After the rain
Every little drip drop won't stop
Got me crying waterfalls, yeah
'Cause I miss you
And I know that one day, soon the sun is gonna shine
I pray that one day I'll see you again
Ohh
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day (a brighter day)
After the rain, change comes, nothing stays the same (yeah, nothing ever stays the same)
After the rain, the sun shines, then a brighter day (ooh, I miss you)
After the rain, things gonna change, there's no more pain
After the rain (after the rain)
Things will get much better, so, baby dry, your eyes
(After the rain)
Every day, there's struggles, so there's no need to cry
(After the rain)
Gotta keep your head up gotta stay strong
(After the rain, things gonna change)
Through the stormy weather
The lyrics to Mya's song "After The Rain" explore the pain and confusion of losing someone close to you. The first verse expresses the singer's sense of loss and confusion in the wake of the other person's departure. She is lost without this person, who was both a friend and a confidant. The second verse is more reflective, with the singer recalling memories of the person who left and feeling the full weight of their absence. However, there is a sense of hope in the chorus, with the repeated phrase "after the rain" suggesting that things will get better with time.
The use of rain as a metaphor is interesting, as it is often associated with sadness and grief. However, the chorus suggests that rain can also bring about new beginnings and a brighter future. The line "things slowly change there's no more pain" reflects the idea that time heals all wounds and that eventually, the singer will be able to move on from this loss. It's a poignant and relatable message that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the pain of losing someone they love.
