Angela
Mötley Crüe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been an alley cat I lived nine lives
I'm like a fine wine I'm better with time
Like a diamondback rattlesnake
I have the rattle if it had the shake

Until you gimme something to believe in
Until you gimme something to sink my teeth into
[Chorus]
Now when the winds cry Angela
Angela I'll be there for you
And when the storms scream Angela
Angela I'll be there

I've been a poet always tongue in cheek
I've seen some scenes man you'd never believe
And like a supercharged rocket ride
You know they'd have gasoline if they had the time

Until you gimme something to believe in
Until you gimme something to sink my teeth into

[Chorus]

Oh, Angela
Oh, Angela
When the winds cry Angela

Save me, I'm a suck soul sucker in this whiskey ghost town
Get me in your saddle and ride me into the ground

Oh, Angela
Oh, Angela

Now when the winds cry Angela
Baby, baby I'll be there

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mötley Crüe's song "Angela" talks about a man who is quite experienced in life and is now looking for something to believe in, something that would give him a sense of purpose. The man compares himself to an alley cat who has lived nine lives, and a diamondback rattlesnake who has the rattle without the shake. This implies that he has all the potential to do great things but needs the right motivation to get there.

The chorus of the song talks about how the man will always be there for Angela, the woman who gives him something to believe in. The storms and winds may scream, but he promises to be there for her no matter what. The man then talks about himself being a poet who is always tongue-in-cheek and has seen things that others wouldn't believe.

He compares himself to a supercharged rocket ride that is waiting for gasoline, implying that he is ready to soar to great heights but needs someone or something to fuel him. In the end, he pleads with Angela to save him from being a "suck soul sucker in this whiskey ghost town" and ride with him till the end.

Overall, the song's message is about finding purpose and motivation through love and companionship. It talks about someone who is broken and directionless until they find that someone who gives them something to believe in and helps them become better versions of themselves.

I stopped caring for metal music because the lyricism never seemed to change. Just talking about the same depressive stuff, over and over again. It seemed to be about who played harder and louder than who could explore their creativity deeper.
Rap, real rap, gave me exactly what I was missing in metal music.
I will compare the first verse from El-P's Tasmanian Pain Coaster with the first verse of this song:

Bumped into this kid I knew, he often would walk strange

So I ignored the blood on his laces so this cat could save face

The dunks and the gaze stayed in an off gray haze

And the lump in his pocket talked to the ox that he clutched safeSo I saluted him there, waiting for the A

Trapped on the empty platform without the option to escape

Gave him the standard, yo, what up man, how you landin'?

And the hypnotized response was no surprise, I maintainYeah, we all do, that's the standardized refrain but on some

Really real man, good to see you, really, what the dealy deal?

Oops, fuck, screwed the pooch, asked too much, knew the truth

On the train now, a caboose in his brain now, no recluse80 blocks to uptown spot, destination vocal booth

Metro-card like, you get what you pay for stupid, no excuse

He pulled his hoody off his cabbage rugged practical

And began to fancy the words I mistakenly jostled looseThe stogie he brazenly lit where he sit looked legit

But when the flame touched to the tip I could smell it's of another nit

He leaned his head back and inhaled the newpie dip and said

"The whole design got my mind cryin' if I'm lyin' I'm dyin', shit"
Now: Kickstart my Heart

When I get high I get high on speed
Top fuel funny car's A drug for me
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart
Always got the cops Coming after me
Custom built bike doing 103
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart.

I'm not going to shit on your tastes, but there is a difference between the lyrical content put forth by these artists. To act as if people simply listen to rap music because they are stupid is folly in my opinion. You can, however, shit on Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, Tyga, Jay Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, etc. They, unfortunately, are the most well known rappers, and coincidentally the worst as well.
