Danger
Mötley Crüe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Had wild dreams
Walkin' the streets
Hell we were young
Never looked back
So we took our dreams
Ran like hell
Lived our youth
From a wishing well
Me and the boys
Made a pact
To love or die
No turning back
Scarred fr life
All my best friends died
I lost my mind
It made me hate
I can't escape I can't escape

(Pre Chorus)
I'm a wildcat
A shotgun blast
Madman
Strong as steel
Overkill
No more deals

(Chorus)
Danger
You're in danger
When the boys are around
Danger
You're in danger
And this is my town
This is Hollywood

I was blind
One step from the edge
Spin round and round
Out of my head
Lost in my gin
From riches to sin
Loose again
I've escaped
I've escaped

(Pre-Chorus)
Tatooed lies
Distant eyes
Hollywood
It's been ten long years
Tears and fears

(Chorus)

(Pre-Chorus)
(Chorus)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mötley Crüe's song "Danger" portray the reckless and wild lifestyle of youth, particularly of the band members themselves. The opening lines of the song vividly describe the carefree attitude of being young and on the streets, chasing after their dreams with abandon. The singer, who appears to be one of the band members, describes the pact they made with each other to stick together no matter what, even if it meant risking their lives. However, the lyrics quickly turn dark, as the singer reveals that all of his best friends have died, leaving him with scars and a hatred that he can't escape from.

The lyrics continue to describe the singer's descent into a wild and dangerous lifestyle, where alcohol and drugs lead him to the brink of destruction. He's on the edge but manages to escape, although it's not clear if he fully breaks free from his reckless existence. Throughout the song, the chorus acts as a warning to those around him that they are in danger when the boys are around - this is Hollywood, after all, where anything can happen.

Overall, the song "Danger" is a commentary on the destructive nature of living recklessly and chasing fame and fortune, particularly in Hollywood. The band members may have lived it up in their youth, but the consequences of their actions are made clear in the lyrics.

I stopped caring for metal music because the lyricism never seemed to change. Just talking about the same depressive stuff, over and over again. It seemed to be about who played harder and louder than who could explore their creativity deeper.
Rap, real rap, gave me exactly what I was missing in metal music.
I will compare the first verse from El-P's Tasmanian Pain Coaster with the first verse of this song:

Bumped into this kid I knew, he often would walk strange

So I ignored the blood on his laces so this cat could save face

The dunks and the gaze stayed in an off gray haze

And the lump in his pocket talked to the ox that he clutched safeSo I saluted him there, waiting for the A

Trapped on the empty platform without the option to escape

Gave him the standard, yo, what up man, how you landin'?

And the hypnotized response was no surprise, I maintainYeah, we all do, that's the standardized refrain but on some

Really real man, good to see you, really, what the dealy deal?

Oops, fuck, screwed the pooch, asked too much, knew the truth

On the train now, a caboose in his brain now, no recluse80 blocks to uptown spot, destination vocal booth

Metro-card like, you get what you pay for stupid, no excuse

He pulled his hoody off his cabbage rugged practical

And began to fancy the words I mistakenly jostled looseThe stogie he brazenly lit where he sit looked legit

But when the flame touched to the tip I could smell it's of another nit

He leaned his head back and inhaled the newpie dip and said

"The whole design got my mind cryin' if I'm lyin' I'm dyin', shit"
Now: Kickstart my Heart

When I get high I get high on speed
Top fuel funny car's A drug for me
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart
Always got the cops Coming after me
Custom built bike doing 103
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart.

I'm not going to shit on your tastes, but there is a difference between the lyrical content put forth by these artists. To act as if people simply listen to rap music because they are stupid is folly in my opinion. You can, however, shit on Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, Tyga, Jay Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, etc. They, unfortunately, are the most well known rappers, and coincidentally the worst as well.
