Sand
M-Project Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of "Sand" by M-Project explore themes of impermanence, the passage of time, and the fleeting nature of existence. The song starts with the singer rising above the sadness expressed in the poetry of many artists, overcoming tears and fears of aging. They confidently believe they will conquer mortality and continue to thrive. However, they admit to one fear that haunts them - the realization that every moment that arrives forces out of sight what is or what seems to be. Each second that passes is lost and forever gone, leading to a sense of melancholy.
The lyrics also delve into the concept of clarity and the price that comes with it. The gift of understanding demands to be paid in the pain that its realization brings. The present is portrayed as the only tangible reality, while the past is merely an imprint on the present that cannot be retrieved. The song emphasizes how each moment emerges on top of what has already transpired and is eventually forced to converge with what lasts or fails to last.
The chorus highlights the insignificance of human existence, describing it as trivial and slipping through our hands. The song suggests that we should focus on sealing our remembrance and leaving a lasting impact, rather than clinging to self-importance and leaving nothing of substance behind.
Overall, "Sand" invites contemplation on the transient nature of life, the importance of cherishing the present, and the paradoxical struggle between the desire for permanence and the inevitability of change.

We must preserve our memories
Self-importance

Is this knowledge a gift or a poison?
Is this understanding a blessing or a curse?
Recollections are all one, they can't be separated out
Memories are interconnected and cannot be distinguished
From this tesseractic prison

Are we complicit or just numb, manacled by doubt?
Are we responsible or merely indifferent, shackled by uncertainty?
My efforts to appreciate drown at an increasing rate
My attempts to value things are engulfed by a growing intensity
"Enjoy it while it lasts", it seems gets pulverized into the stream
The phrase "savor it while you can" is shattered and carried away in the current
And so my boundless reverence for having my own song and dance
Therefore, my limitless admiration for having my own unique experience
Settles, calmly turning bland, with all the rest into the sand
Becomes mundane and unremarkable, blending in with everything else and disappearing into the sand

Manufactured sand is angular while most river sand is smooth. Crushed rock and crushed sand interlock and help form stable bases. In our area, crushed sand is a byproduct of making crushed stone (gravels). It should be even better in concrete than river sand.
When you buy 3/4 minus for example, the fines are actually crushed sand. Some places call the crushed sand 'rock dust' and are used under pavers for example.
In this video, when finished sand is being discharged to a pile, the angle of the slope is quite steep. That is because the sand particles being angular interlock. Angle of Repose increases.

Impressive! Professional! I learned a lot from you! Thanks!

@wu jeyne glad the information was helpful. I was a Landscape Architect for years. Combine design, construction management, supervision. Studied Civil Engineering in College along with L Arch. In my area, mostly river deposited rocks, gravels, sands. Some is sold as 'washed' and others as 'crushed'. Was always careful to specify right kind of rock.

@Steven Rohrich No wonder! You have a great career. The crushed artificial sand is in high demand. I hope to improve the sand productivity with our tungsten carbide wear parts for the crushers, and help the sustainability of the envioronment as well.

A commentary on the process and machine-types being used would have gone a long way in helping us viewers understand these.
