The Sea
M.O.N.E.Y Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take me to the sea
Take me to the shore line
That's where I need to be
Watching the sun rise

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

I miss the days
When the sun was shining
And I had the sea
Right by my door

And Grandma used to say
Son you will be flying away
I never knew what she meant before
Until I

Packed my rucksack and took off
Ten years on and I'm still in love
With the sand that felt me grow

But now and then when I do get lost
There's this place I know I can trust
To put me back on the road

So Take me to the sea
Take me to the shore line
That's where I need to be
Underneath the moonlight

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

And I'm waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting

Take me to the sea
Take me to the shore line

That's where I need to be
Watching the sun rise

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of M.O.N.E.Y’s song “The Sea” express a longing for the ocean and the memories that come with it. The artist yearns to be on the shoreline, watching the sunrise and waiting for something significant. The repetition of “I’m waiting” throughout the chorus emphasizes the singer’s patience, endurance, and drive for a sense of fulfillment or direction. The artist also reminisces of his past, before he took off on his journey. Being close to the ocean was a significant part of his childhood. His grandmother had told him he would soar one day before he flew for adventure, and he didn’t realize what she meant until he left. Ten years later, he still holds onto those memories and the feeling of the sand beneath his feet that helped in his growth. However, when he loses his way, the sea is the place he knows he can always rely on to find himself and move forward.

I agree with Sam Turner. Wu Lyf and Money were peers. Contemporaries living and playing in the same city. I would imagine they at least knew of one another. Since I have never heard one band speak of the other, I will take that silence as golden.
