Someone Else
MAE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two days and I've not slept a wink,
these thoughts that I've been thinking.
This is the mark I aim to miss. (again)

You toss and turn, I lye awake,
who knows what I've been drinking.
another cheat me, mean less kiss. (to give)
From the beginning,
dove down, and lost all his charm.
just want to wake up, wake up in someone's…

I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.

I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.

Six days and I can see the same,
brown eyes in this reflection.
Is the man you say I'll be? (become)

You toss and turn, I lye awake,
into the sand were sinking.
Holding us back from breathing free. (under)

More than words, keep to yourself.
Like the curse, fairly well.

One-man game, one truth to tale.
All this blame, hammers your way to hell.

I've got a feeling; it's not the safest place to start.
This heavy breathing, it seems, we're better off breaking hearts.
and the beginning, dove down, and lost all his charm.
just want to wake up, wake up in someone's…

I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.

I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.
I just want to wake up.

I just want to wake up, in someone else's arms.

Overall Meaning

Mae's song "Someone Else's Arms" tells the story of someone who is struggling to let go of their past and move on from a failed relationship. The lyrics evoke feelings of restlessness, sleeplessness, and self-doubt as the singer grapples with their own shortcomings and desires. The first two lines, "Two days and I've not slept a wink, these thoughts that I've been thinking," set the tone for the song and establish the singer's state of mind. They are consumed by their thoughts and are unable to find rest.

The chorus, "I just want to wake up, in someone else's arms," highlights the singer's desire to escape their pain and find solace in the arms of another person. Throughout the rest of the song, the singer struggles to let go of their past and move on, as evidenced by lines like "From the beginning, dove down, and lost all his charm" and "More than words, keep to yourself. Like the curse, fairly well." Despite the pain and uncertainty, the singer remains hopeful, expressing their desire to "wake up in someone else's arms" and start anew.

Overall, "Someone Else's Arms" is a poignant and relatable song that speaks to the universal experience of heartbreak and the struggle to move on. The lyrics are emotive and powerful, and the song's dreamy melody underscores the sense of longing and desire present in the lyrics.

Mae are easily the most underrated band of all time. I seriously can't stress that enough, it's a crime

8 years later. It's still a fact.

12 years later and still is one of my all time favorite bands. The Everglow legitimately changed my life and completely changed my taste in music

This is such a great album seriously. Almost every song has its own motif, and are bangers in their own way. It was very hard to find an album back then that you could honestly just pop in and listen to all the way through.

My most listened to album in college. In my opinion, this is Mae's Magnum Opus. Absolutely flawless...

The chorus used to be my ringtone in highschool! Mornings were so grumpy and happy at the same time 😂
Ringtone: "I just wanna wake up!"
Me: "NOOOOOO I DON'T!!!"
Also me: "good morning Mae"

Jared K

Is that a pun because of their later album Morning?

In 2005 and 2006 I listened to The Everglow on repeat thousands of times, such an emotional album for me.
