Livin' on a Prayer
MATT TYLER Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tommy used to work on the docks, union's been on strike
He's down on his luck, it's tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day working for her man
She brings home her pay, for love, for love
She says, we've got to hold on to what we've got
It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not
We'll give it a shot
Woah, we're half way there
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Tommy's got his six-string in hock
Now he's holding in what he used to make it talk
So tough, it's tough
Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night, Tommy whispers
Baby, it's okay, someday
We've got to hold on to what we've got
It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot for love
We'll give it a shot
Woah, we're half way there
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Livin' on a prayer
Oh, we've got to hold on, ready or not
You live for the fight when it's all that you've got
Woah, we're half way there
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Woah, we're half way there
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Woah, we're half way there
Woah, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, livin' on a prayer
The song Livin' On a Prayer by MATT TYLER is about the struggles of young lovers Tommy and Gina who face financial hardship and uncertainty. Tommy used to work on the docks, but the union's strike left him without a job. He is down on his luck, and Gina is working at a diner to support him. The theme of the song is hope amidst adversity, and the lyrics are a testament to the strength of love and the power of the human spirit to cope with and overcome difficulties.
The chorus of the song is the most memorable part and has become a karaoke anthem. It begins with "Woah, we're halfway there, woah, livin' on a prayer." The message is that despite their struggles, Tommy and Gina are determined to hold onto what they've got, knowing that they have each other's love and support. They will give it a shot, and they'll live on a prayer, hoping for a better future.
The song also mentions that Tommy has his six-string in hock, indicating that he has pawned his guitar to make ends meet. Gina dreams of running away, but Tommy reassures her that things will eventually get better. In the end, they're living on a prayer, which means that they're hopeful and determined to keep going despite the odds.
Overall, the song is about the power of love and hope amidst difficult times. It's a message that resonates with people from all walks of life and has made Livin' On a Prayer a timeless classic.
