MAX Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Well sometimes life has its own plans
It doesn't always have to run like clockwork
And it doesn't matter if Berlin or New York
After all these years we may have drifted apart
But we still know who we are
And now I'm here where it started
Disappeared but not broken hearted
Breathin' that old familiar smell
And it feels like
Oh I've never been away
And now I'm here all grown up
I know how you look without your make-up
I'm walkin' through the streets I know so well
Breathin' that old familiar smell
It feels like
Oh it feels like
Home
Home
Home
Most of your people pass you blind
But i've seen you from behind
Charismatic even though you don't shine
You still knock me down with a single smile
After all these years we may have drifted apart
But we still know who we are
And now I'm here where it started
Disappeared but not broken hearted
I'm walkin' through the streets I know so well
Breathin' that old familiar smell
And feels like
Oh I've never been away
And now I'm here all grown up
I know how you look without your make-up
I'm walkin' through the streets I know so well
Breathin' that old familiar smell
It feels like
Oh Yeah
And it feels like
Home
Home
Home
Oh it feels like home
Home
Home
Oh it feels like home
Home
Home
Oh it feels like
Home home
Home home
Home home
And now I'm here where it started
Disappeared but not broken hearted
I'm walkin' through the streets I know so well
Breathin' that old familiar smell
And feels like
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
And it feels
It doesn't look the same
But some things never change
Everything's a little bit re-arranged
At home
In the opening lyrics of MAX's song "Home," the singer reflects on old memories through looking at old pictures, emphasizing how life doesn't always go according to plan. Despite changes and the passage of time, the singer believes that the essence of their identity remains intact. They mention the familiarity of returning to where it all began, feeling both disappeared yet not brokenhearted. The reference to the streets they know well and the old familiar smell evokes a sense of comfort and nostalgia, as if they never left.
The lyrics convey a sentiment of maturity and self-discovery as the singer mentions being all grown up and recognizing someone without their makeup on, signifying a deeper level of understanding and intimacy. The repetition of the word "home" reinforces the idea of finding a sense of belonging and comfort in a place or with someone, despite physical separation or changes over time.
In the subsequent verses, the singer expresses admiration for the resilience and charisma of a place that may not always be noticed by others, but still manages to captivate them. The imagery of being knocked down by a smile suggests the power of simple, genuine gestures to evoke strong emotions and connections, highlighting the enduring bond between the singer and the place or person being referred to.
As the song progresses, there is a renewed sense of familiarity and belonging as the singer navigates through the streets they know so well, breathing in the familiar scent that evokes a strong sense of homecoming. The repeated refrain of "Oh it feels like home" underscores the underlying theme of finding solace and comfort in returning to a place of emotional significance, even if it may have changed in some ways.
In the closing lines, the singer acknowledges that while things may look different and life may have evolved, certain aspects remain constant. The subtle rearrangement of elements signifies growth and change while still preserving the essential core of what makes a place or relationship feel like home. The song ultimately conveys a message of resilience, nostalgia, and the enduring sense of belonging that transcends physical distance and time.
