Hold up
MC Eiht Lyrics

[EIHT]
We sending this one out right here
To all the young thug and young hustlers out there
You know I'm sayin', grown up with their moms strugglin'
In the hood yo' I'm sayin', ya know how it is
Trying to keep it tight, you know I'm sayin'
Geah
Born and raised a black youth, no happy days
My moms and pops went they separate ways
Now she solo with half the dough, and three kids
No house, a damn tight situation we in

Hit the streets to look for work and pay
So her kids can have it better than she had one day
Try to teach me some rules, "Get A's in school
Keep your head up high and don't run with the fools"

That was the lesson, always listen to moms
Bible she totin, always quotin from Psalms
Young but I'm knowin' the right thang to do
Know the things to say when times is blue

Times is hard and really unfortunate
I'm young and I really don't like the shit
But I dream nice things when I sleep at night
When I grow up I'll make everything alright
Sing

[SOULTRE]
I know it's hard sometimes
But if you can make a way, you need to hold up
I know a better way
And if you can wait today it'll be alright...

[EIHT]
Now I'm 15, my life done hit a split screen
What used to be a good kid struck a bad gene
Bad dreams, young thugs and crime scenes
Skip school, saggin' my jeans and blow green

My moms don't know where I get the shit from
If you keep trippin' you know the outcome
Laid up somewhere, or in jail
Makin' collect calls tryin' to make bail

Hell, and you know how I struggle for the cheddar
Before I give it away better get it together
My guilty conscience sayin' not no listen
The other have tellin' me, keep a good intention

Aw shit, a nigga need a mind of his own
Too much to deal with, I really don't feel shit
Young thug ready to take on the world
Who made my life take such a twirl
Come on

[Chorus]
Now my situation's changed, no chains remain
Now I try to check out the game and cause pain
Long live the days of homeboys and straps
Gang of tombstones for the ones that caught caps

Make snaps off raps, reminiscin' of days
Good part is shot up while 'More Bounce' plays
Missin the days sometimes, but keeps my eyes on the future
Keep my hands on my heat cause niggas might shoot ya

Rob a nigga blind, just like Stevie
I used to do the same when a nigga was greedy
But my come-up was wrong, flipped it, now it's strong
Now I clocks snaps, keep the street shit in my songs

Trying to make it up on a stage from doin' a bid
Trying to make a better way like she did for my kids
Right now watch out, keep my nose to the grind
Yeah boy, this world is mine
Geah

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

MC Eiht's song Hold Up is a message of hope and a cautionary tale to all the young thugs and young hustlers. The song shares the story of MC Eiht's life growing up as a black youth in the ghetto. Eiht opens the song by acknowledging the struggles of growing up with a single mom who was struggling to make ends meet, while raising three kids. Despite the tough situation, his mother tried to instill in him some rules to succeed in life - "Get A's in school, Keep your head up high, and don't run with the fools." Eiht learned the right thing to do and what to say when times were tough.

As he grew older, Eiht found himself in a tough situation trying to balance his desire to make quick money with his conscience. He was a good kid once, but bad genes and company led him to start skipping school, sagging his jeans, and smoking weed. Eiht's transformation from a good kid to a young thug was sudden, and he struggled to come to terms with it. He knew his mom had worked hard to see him succeed. He found himself torn between his guilty conscience urging him to do the right thing and his peer pressure pushing him to be a thug. Eiht concluded the song by sharing his story of hope - changing his ways, staying focused, and making something positive out of his life.

Overall, Hold Up's lyrics remind young listeners that life is tough and not everything comes easy. It's essential to stay focused, work hard, and make the right choices. Even when things get hard and life seems like it's not worth it, there's always a way out, and things will get better if you hold tight and do the right thing.

on All for the Money

I like to dedicate to the late smooth R&B artist and the man I love Tyrone Davis who has passed away from
a complications of a fatal stroke at the age of 66 at Mount Sinai Hospital on February 9th, 2005 in
Chicago Illinois. My favorite song is In The Mood and I fell passionately in love with that sexy tune and
I like to slow dance to the seductive quiet storm by candlelight with Tyrone Davis and he'll take me in his
arms and caress my sexy body tenderly while the candles are still igniting the smooth and sensual
seduction in the nighttime. Also, in other words, I like to feel the waves of a steamy passion burning very
hot when we kiss that is so romantic and he'll make me surrender to his touch at the same time on a sultry evening. My heart is already on fire because the heat will be rising in the air tonight too. RIP Tyrone Davis.
Your smooth and sexy voice will always capture my heart and soul forever.

Oh yeah, I love the soulful sample of In The Mood by the late soul star Tyrone Davis and I want to feel the
fire at the stroke of midnight while the candles are still igniting the soulful and seductive mood in the
nighttime. Also, in other words, I like to move my sexy body from side to side to the romantic melody
while the lights are turning down low and the candles begin to flicker very brightly in the darkness.
And best of all, I want to feel the fire burning very hot with Tyrone Davis because my body has been
yearning for the sensual seduction and the heat of the moment on a sultry evening. RIP to the late
R&B star and the king of romantic Chicago soul, Tyrone Davis. Your dazzling music will continue to live on
because your voice is so smooth and sexy and I'm definitely going to be in the mood tonight.
Love you Tyrone Davis.
