When
MDATA (Mua'Dib And The Awakening) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The madness and cold
Leaks out above
Turns his head in defiance
Wipes the ice from his glove

All along the scene
A polaroid of doubt
He takes the stairs to the left
And he’s back underground

When the fear subsides
We’ll dance again on the other side

And it’s here
Where they pirate the cost
In the light of getting close
Pay the guard for another show
We know

When the fear subsides
We’ll dance again on the other side
When the fear subsides
You’ll take my hand and the words denied

And when the fear subsides
We’ll dance again on the other side
And when the fear subsides

We’ll dance again on the other side
On the other side

Overall Meaning

The lyrics describe a sense of madness and coldness that permeates the atmosphere. It suggests that this feeling leaks out from somewhere above, causing the singer to defiantly turn their head. They wipe the ice from their glove, symbolizing a readiness to confront the challenges ahead.

The next section introduces doubt as a prevalent element in the scene, likened to a polaroid picture. The singer decides to take an alternate route, heading down the stairs and returning underground. This action implies a desire to escape or distance themselves from the doubts and uncertainty present in their surroundings.

The chorus brings the theme of fear into focus. It suggests that when the fear subsides, there will be a sense of relief and the opportunity to dance again. This could represent a metaphorical release from the burdens and anxieties that previously held the singer back.

The following verses explore the idea of pirating the cost. This could refer to a manipulative act of taking advantage of vulnerability in order to gain something. The singer seems aware of this deception, acknowledging the need to pay the guard for another show. This implies a certain level of acceptance or resignation to the situation.

The chorus repeats, emphasizing the hope that when fear no longer holds sway, there will be a chance to dance again. The lyrics imply a longing for connection and unity, symbolized by taking someone's hand. However, it suggests that the fear has prevented the expression of these feelings through words.

The song ends by repeating the chorus, highlighting the desire to dance again on the other side. This repetition reinforces the theme of overcoming fear and finding solace or freedom beyond it. It signifies a hopeful anticipation of leaving behind the current struggles and moving towards a brighter future, represented by "the other side."

I would sleep VERY well knowing that Commander Data is standing beside me, alert and looking out for me. He's the best!

Christus Regnet

@The Guy Who Asked I think it was something about parents abusing kids, or maybe priest scandals. I really don't remember. It looks like a whole long conversation was deleted.

You're probably safe with Data, as long as he isn't trying some weird new "experiencing humanity" program that turns him into a bad robot.

The Guy Who Asked

@Christus Regnet What the fuck man, I open the replies to a star trek comment and see "sexual abuse rates among public school teachers" I know I'm 4 years late to the conversation, but I'd be truly grateful if you could recall to me what in the blue hell Evi1M4chine said, even if it's just fragments of what it was, I need some kind of context, anything!

Yes yes yes great comment😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😇

Me too

I have two opposing feelings about this. When Data is reliable, he's very reliable, but when something goes wrong (e.g.: being controlled by Lore), it goes very wrong. Dismissing this potential as "but he usually doesn't try to kill me" wouldn't make me feel much better.

The best part is, Data's probably the nicest person on the entire ship, he's probably just making sure the captain's all right, and Picard knows that... but holy crap, it doesn't really matter, does it?

Lol, Picards wound too tight for this sort of thing. Sisko would’ve been out like a light.😂👍
