Cry
MIKA Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
I don't wanna cry no more
I don't wanna cry, cry, cry
(Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha)
I don't wanna cry no more
I don't wanna cry, cry, cry
Ooh, ooh, ooh
I don't wanna cry, cry no more
I don't wanna cry, cry, cry
I don't wanna cry, cry, cry
I don't wanna cry no more
I don't wanna cry
I don't wanna cry, oh, whoa
In the lyrics of Mika's song Cry, the singer expresses a deep emotional struggle and longing to move past the pain they are feeling. The opening lines convey a sense of emotional numbness, where the real wounds do not hurt anymore, and the singer is left with only tears flowing as a way to express their pent-up emotions. The lyrics touch on a nostalgic longing for a time when the singer's heart was filled with ideals, but now it lies in ruins, navigating a life filled with contradictions.
The repeated refrain "I don't wanna cry no more" captures the singer's desire to break free from the cycle of sadness and tears that seem to have consumed them. Despite putting on a facade of strength and bravado, the singer admits to feeling like a coward who has been fighting battles with only their pretense of toughness as a shield. The acknowledgment that someone understands this vulnerability adds a layer of intimacy and comfort to the lyrics, highlighting the importance of having someone who knows you deeply.
As the song progresses, the lyrics hint at a breaking point where the singer is on the verge of crumbling under the weight of their emotions. The mention of wanting to cry so much that they feel like they are falling apart emphasizes the intensity of their emotional turmoil. The uncertainty expressed in the lines "How much longer?" and "Is there an end to this loneliness?" reveals a sense of hopelessness mixed with a glimmer of yearning for a resolution to their suffering.
The final verses of the song encapsulate a plea to end the cycle of tears and loneliness, with a desperate cry to break free from the shackles of pain. The repeated refrain "I don't wanna cry" echoes the singer's firm resolve to overcome their emotional struggles and find solace amidst the heartbreak. The haunting quality of the lyrics, combined with the vulnerability and raw emotion conveyed throughout the song, creates a poignant narrative of inner turmoil and the resilient spirit's quest for healing and redemption.
