All of the Lights
Kanye West Lyrics

All of the lights (all of the lights)
(Lights, lights) all of the lights

Turn up the lights in here baby
Extra bright, I want y'all to see this
Turn up the lights in here, baby
You know what I need
Want you to see everything
Want you to see all of the lights

Fast cars, shooting stars
(All of the lights, all of the lights)
Until it's Vegas everywhere we are
(All of the lights)

If you want it you can get it for the rest of your life
If you want it you can get it for the rest of your life

Something wrong
I hold my head
M.j. Gone, our nigga dead!
I slapped my girl, she called the feds
I did that time and spent that bread
I'm heading home, I'm almost there
I'm on my way, headed up the stairs
To my surprise, a nigga replacing me
I had to take 'em to that ghetto university (all of the lights)

Cop lights, flashlights, spotlights
Strobe lights, street lights
(All of the lights, all of the lights)
Fast life, drug life
Thug life, rock life
Every night (all of the lights)

Turn up the lights in here, baby
Extra bright, I want y'all to see this
Turn up the lights in here, baby
You know what I need, want you to see everything
Want you to see all of the lights

Restraining order
Can't see my daughter
Her mother, brother, grandmother hate me in that order
Public visitation
We met at Borders
Told her she take me back
I'll be more supportive
I made mistakes
I bumped my head
Courts suck me dry
I spent that bread
She need her daddy
Baby please,
Can't let her grow up in that ghetto university (all of the lights)

Cop lights, flash lights, spot lights
Strobe lights, street lights
(All of the lights, all of the lights)
Fast life, drug life
Thug life, rock life
Every night (all of the lights)

Turn up the lights in here, baby
Extra bright, I want y'all to see this
Turn up the lights in here, baby
You know what I need, want you to see everything
Want you to see all of the lights

Getting mine, baby
Gotta let these niggas know, yeah
Get right, ay
You should go and get your own

Getting mine, baby
Gotta let these niggas know, yeah
Get right, ay
You should go and get your own

Unemployment line, credit card declined
Did I not mention I was about to lose my mind? (My mind, my mind, my mind)
And also was about to do that line (line, line, line)
Okay, okay, you know we going all the way this time (time)
We going all the way this time (time)
We going all the way this time
We going all the way this time
We going all the way this time

Turn up the lights in here, baby
Extra bright, I want y'all to see this
Turn up the lights in here, baby
You know what I need, want you to see everything
Want you to see all of the lights

Whoa, whoa, oh
I tried to tell you but all I could say is oh

Whoa, whoa, oh
I tried to tell you but all I could say is oh

Whoa, whoa, oh
I tried to tell you but all I could say is oh

Whoa, whoa, oh
I tried to tell you but all I could say

In reality tough times should create better artists and more soulful art. Most great art comes from a place of pain/suffering.
Censorship will also create a great underground sound.
At least that’s what history teaches us, but these kids today.... I dunno everything is so soft, there’s no semblance of youthful rebellion anymore. Shit everything that the young people of today are fighting for and against seems to be sponsored by or at least on the same page as all the big corporations, big tech, and politicians, are you really fighting against the system when Politicians, Google, Apple, Nike, McDonalds, & every mainstream celebrity & athlete are on your side and pushing your narrative? That’s not exactly fighting against the system, or being the resistance when anyone who speaks out against your point of view is canceled, shamed, or censored.

The youth today are so scared to offend anyone, and they just don’t seem to have to drive and work ethic to put in the hard work to make masterpieces like artists of the 90’s 80’s, 70’s and before.

Add in people’s ever shortening attention span and it seems like as the decades pass things are become more and more superficial, nothing has any layers or deepness to it, it’s all just very surface level.
I guess the fact that social media and YouTube gives anyone a platform has gotten rid of the gatekeepers which is good because talented people aren’t held back for nefarious reasons, but it also lets in lots of untalented people that just clutter the space and now there’s little to no quality control.
Then again music is made for young people and I’m closing in on 40, so maybe it’s just not for me anymore.

Who knows.
