The two shared a passion for hip-hop, which hadn't yet made a strong impact in the South, and formed their own rap duo, 8Ball & MJG. They made their recording debut in 1991 with a three-track single, Listen to the Lyrics, released on cassette and 12" vinyl by On the Strength Records, an independent label. (These early recordings for On the Strength would later be reissued in 1997 as Lyrics of a Pimp and also in 2000 as Memphis Under World.) 8Ball & MJG subsequently signed a deal with Suave Records (aka Suave House), a Houston, TX-based label run by Tony Draper. 8Ball & MJG's debut full-length, Comin' Out Hard (1993), produced partly by MJG, was the inaugural release by Suave, which would grow to become one of the premier Southern rap labels of the decade. Now considered a milestone, Comin' Out Hard was among the first Southern rap albums to get widespread recognition, opening the door for other pioneers such as Three 6 Mafia, Master P, and Cash Money Records.
8Ball & MJG recorded a few additional albums for Tony Draper throughout the remainder of the decade -- On the Outside Looking In (1994), On Top of the World (1995), In Our Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1999) -- and did much to foster the growth of Suave, regularly being featured as guests on the label's other releases. Plus, 8Ball and MJG each branched out for solo projects, Lost (1998) and No More Glory (1997), respectively, both released by Suave. In 2000, 8Ball & MJG left Suave and switched to JCOR Entertainment, a short-lived rap label founded by Jay Faires, for the release of Space Age 4 Eva. The album, which notably featured production by Swizz Beatz and DJ Quik, was a departure for 8Ball & MJG, who heretofore had worked more or less exclusively with regional producers. The album spawned a pair of minor hits, "Pimp Hard" and "Buck Bounce," the duo's first to first to get national, opposed to regional, airplay. In 2001, JCOR released a pair of 8Ball albums -- The Slab, a various-artists compilation, and Almost Famous, a proper solo album -- but the label then ran into trouble and went out of business, leaving 8Ball & MJG without a recording contract.
After a couple years in limbo, Bad Boy Records, helmed by Diddy, picked up 8Ball & MJG and released Living Legends (2004), the duo's most star-studded album to date. "You Don't Want Drama," the lead single, became 8Ball & MJG's biggest hit ever, reaching number 30 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart, while Living Legends itself likewise became the duo's best-selling, debuting at number three on the Top 200 album chart and topping 500,000 in sales. 8Ball & MJG's second Bad Boy album, Ridin High (2007), was less successful, though, despite debuting well at number eight and spawning a strong lead single, "Relax and Take Notes."
Ball & MJG are now signed to T.I.s Grand Hustle lable.
MJG has released 2 solo Albums in 2008 titled Pimp Tight & This Might Be The Day.

La da da da da
Ooh, oh, ooh
[MJG]
MJG with his hand on a black steel figure
Sent three tricks up to backwoods river
Give me, uh, the motherfucking chump want to fight me
Swangin' round the corner got my game tight, ready
Rollin' one deep in the SS Chevy
Hoes, in blow up clothes trying to get my full attention
But don't say shit if ya don't get mentioned
Drinkin' 80 proof gin, chiefin' green, sticky dope
Ya ass don't smoke if ya ass don't choke
I'm too thick to be faded, Heinz 57 thickness
I freeze ya ass with the motherfucking quickness
It's the grease that be straight out the street that I deliver
Shit so cold it make ya insides shiver
If a nigga twenty holding, twenty motherfucking minutes
I blow the strength out the bitch damn splitted
Hellafied, mackadocious blow the better of the hay
Ya gets no hit if ya ass don't pay
Lay ya ass down jacker ain't no money to be took
I shot the shit out the got damn crook
[Chorus]
I'm a good damm man, I'm a good damm man
Just can't stand that I'm a good damm man and I'm cool
I'm a good damm man, I'm a good damm man
Pimp all hoes and, uh take on niggas too
I'm a good damm man, I'm a good damm man
Just can't stand that I'm a good damm man and I'm cool
Good damm man
[Verse 2]
Pimp tight nigga for real slash lavish
Don't chase dreams if ya can't count cabbage
And even if a woman gets dinner to give me some
It ain't no bitch worth my whole income
Force dir ho, you ain't no virgin have you heard
See hoes get broke tryin' to break past the word
Ain't no ignorant motherfuckers residing in my zone
Cause most sad folks got they own damn home
It's been too many times that I've been ganked and double-crossed
The game got grown and the game got tossed
Back in my ass, jabbing me fast, I had to shake
What I worked to make the side that wants to take
I get the notion that there's a fire in the kitchen, feel the flames
The heat about to cook up ya whole damn thang
Get ya hand back reaching for mine, suicide
The fuck got slapped out, the nigga knew he died
It's his own damn fault, you know that busta brought it on
Stay in a child's place if ya ass ain't grown
And you do not prostitute hoes that work for me
Collect my loot out the got damn streets
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
Right now you know the name is M-J-G
Knock trick punks off the block daily
I can say we was fucking you up, you was squealing
Put three caps in the sniper on the building
Fill him up, shovel his ass, drop his ass, then cut him
Now you don't look so bad motherfuck him
I'm bout tired of bitch niggas and I'm tired of bitch hoes
But I guess that's the way life goes
Cause it grows, cousin workin' on schemes, sale dreams
Don't know shit about the hip-hop scene
Breakin' you clean, using ya ideas, what they doin'
Signed ya life on the line now ya ruined
I'm a realist and a leader not a follower
Break soft shit that the nation can't swallow
Never can be stopped, new on the block poet
Read the fuck out the thread when you sew it
[Singing]
La da da da da
Good damm man
[Chorus (x3)]
The song "Good Damn Man" by MJG tells the story of a confident and accomplished man who is unapologetic about his success and determined to maintain his power and status. The lyrics portray a man who is respected by women and feared by other men, as he navigates the streets with ease and ruthlessly handles anyone who tries to cross him. MJG's flow and delivery are aggressive and unrelenting, reflecting the confidence and swagger of the singer of the song.
The chorus repeats the phrase "I'm a good damn man," emphasizing the pride and self-assuredness of the character. He is proud of his accomplishments and unafraid to flaunt them, even as he faces challenges and threats. The song paints a picture of a man who has worked hard to achieve success, but is also willing to take risks and use violence to protect his position.
In many ways, "Good Damn Man" is a celebration of masculinity and power, with MJG portraying a larger-than-life figure who commands respect and dominates his surroundings. At the same time, the song is also a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and violence, as the singer's actions ultimately come at a cost.
