Considering as they are almost exclusively hand crafted instruments, finding a gurdy luthier is the only way to acquire one, likely from Europe. Thus they are often made to order and customized to the purchaser’s specifications.

They did that for me for my violin when they made it and they recorded it being played beautiful because the whole range from E to G it is really crisp on the E string and really warm and the range of the g-string magnificent. When I look at your Hurdy Gurdy it looks like to me either an oversized violin with no neck or a Frankenstein cello but Patty gurdy it is wonderful seeing you play an instrument you love and I bet you have started a whole new hurdy gurdy re insurgents or you know people wanting to learn to play the instrument and even though this is this was 2 years ago that instrument is a work of art and to me this beautiful and I consider it a functioning work of art. I cannot wait to this dude in here some more music that you have made. Have a great day

had always heard of the hurdy gurdy but knew nothing of the instrument..as a craftsman i can only say her instruments are remarkable..the woods the color..the fabrication of the various bridges etc..must have taken many many hours to craft such an instrument and anything that you have that many hours of hands on crafting is going to its own spiritual mojo.as for paddy i must say she is brilliantly talented and quite possibly one of the most radiant young woman that i have ever cast my eyes upon..her beauty and her talent along with presence and comfort while performing makes her a most rare gem indeed. and i like that she has taken an obviously uncommon instrument and is pushing the boundaries of it's possibility's in tonality and performance

The crank does not scratch against the body, no need for a pickguard.

Over the years I've learnt to express admiration for the talent of artists and presenters and not comment on their appearance.
Since I don't drink, it would have to be very late at night before I post comments that a Youtube artist is attractive or cute.

I just started listening to you and I am so far behind and I knew the song from Carnival row in the story that you told behind that is very awesome. I did see or hear a question that was asked of you what happens if you were to hurt your wrist what would you do music wise, and you said sing. I have a question what happens if you have a severe neck injury I play the violin, trumpet, French, I play around on the hand piano or the African piano, the piano then I can get someone out to have it tuned and guitar bass and everything I love music and I love listening to music but I found that one injury besides well just moving on my severe neck injury it's so bad that my hands are numb which that normally doesn't get in the way of me playing because it's all memory and listening as I am playing. The thing is is I cannot lay my cheek or chin or in the chin rest or tilt my head Alice Lee I'm trying to learn the violin as quickly as possible I mean the first day I got it I was halfway through the crystallized song and I was able to scrape my way through Morrison's jig so I learn by playing by ear and other signaling with the notes are on said instrument but with this injury I can't play anything even playing the trumpet which you think I would be able to sit back and relax nope you have to take in your neck in modulate everything so the same for the saxophone clarinet guitar I can't do it cuz everything is just difficult but I know it will get better. The one thing that makes me sad even though I can sing but it's more of like either folk song singing or I have to sing like five finger death punch but again with the neck entry it has left me where I cannot even do that because tightening the neck gives me neuralgia which is face pain it's uncurable I am used to that but I'm just waiting on surgery and I'm willing to take the chance so I can get back to normal life because not only do with it give me extreme pain and I'm not able to do what I love to do playing music or singing it also takes my sight away from me and I saw you playing the hurdy gurdy and I was just wondering say instead of standing can you sit and play it like on your lap I mean I don't think at this moment I could invest 1300 to 3000 euros I'm sure I could go over to the conversion app but I'm pretty sure that comes up to on the high end around $5,000 when that is what my violin cost so and I am from the US which again like last year even though my neck was hurting me I am half American Indian and I took my violin to a gathering or pow wow because the state I live in the first settlers were German and Irish obviously there was an American Indian population they witches My Tribe and there are several other tribes that were around but people found it refreshing and I'm using that I was just playing Irish Tunes walking through the Gathering win they were not doing spirit dancing with drums I would get in a lot of trouble with my tribe interrupting something that has been going on for hundreds of years. But they found it refreshing and a lot of people recognize the songs as well I mean I started playing the song from Rob Roy and when you have like five thousand American Indians from all across the u.s. at a gathering and they are all Channing Liam Neeson funny and I was not interrupting the Gathering and they thoroughly enjoyed when I quoted The Grey the movie Liam Neeson did were the plane crashing he hunted wolves. The one thing I can sell do and I have to speech to text because my hands are numb and I have broken three phones this year alone so this is why this whole thing is a monolith with no punctuation I apologize. But I like to write as an author beard fantasy or even say on the borderline of factual fantasy and that's only because I'm left-handed well I am Omni dexterous or ambidextrous I can play left or right handed or other stuff like I can shoot a bow left or right handed so on and so forth but being ambidextrous leads me to sometimes grabbing an instrument or doing stuff backwards but I just wanted to say thank you for the awesome music you've made for people like me and others to find and enjoy. Oh and is it possible to play the Hurdy Gurdy sitting down it seems like it would I mean if I can sit there with the French horn and play the Star Wars theme I mean technically I would need a trumpet and French horn and I could switch back and forth but that's a literal musical chairs but anyways May the Hurdy Gurdy be played sitting down and I just love the whole instrument and how you play it it is exciting to watch it being played. If you made it this far congratulations

Patty, I first became aware of one was in the great classic film "Captains Courageous", with Spencer Tracy & Freddie Bartholomew! If you haven't seen the movie, try to find it! I was fascinated by the "Gurdy", as a 10yr. old kid! Also, the band "The Arcade Fire" uses one very nicely! 10-Q.

Amazing, I knew gurdys were real but I had never seen one before. As a young kid I used to have a book called the Hurry Gurdy Man. I found it interesting that a guy could turn a crank on a box and make music. Any way, good luck with your new Hurdy Gurdy. I love that green.

Possible suggestion for v2.1: if the crank tends to flex such that the eccentric pin strikes and scratches the wood, you might consider a crank that is angled away from the wood. That is, have the crank arm at a non-perpendicular angle to the axle. That way, it would have to deflect through perpendicular before approaching the wood. Or, beef up the crank so that it doesn't flex.
That is, if flexing of the crank arm is the issue; if there is axial play, the whole assembly is underconstrained.

When I was a child in the American midwest during the '50s, she'd occasionally reminisce with fascination about "the hurdy-gurdy man" who would busk in the city streets of her youth. For her it was a potent evocation of a time and place, and exotic and foreign to me.
