There is a wrong side of the couch
Mac McAnally's song "Pop Top Hop" tells a story about a man named Bobby who wakes up on the wrong side of the couch after a night of drinking. He is trying to piece together the previous night's events when he steps on a beer can, prompting him to do a new dance craze he calls the "pop top hip hop." Despite the pain in his head, Bobby can't seem to stop dancing. Meanwhile, Bobby's girlfriend Darlene has gone on a shopping spree at Walmart, purchasing household items until she reaches her breaking point. The other shoppers at Walmart begin to circle and clap as Darlene does a new dance called the "dust mop hip hop."
When Bobby finds Darlene in the parking lot, they make up and kiss, only to be caught by the security guard. Bobby and Darlene then do a new dance craze called the "rent-a-cop hip hop," despite the guard's protests. Overall, the song is a lighthearted look at the ridiculous things people do when they've had too much to drink and the absurdity of new dance crazes.
