Spiral
Mackenzie Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

If only you could feel
The way you made me feel
This pain, I'm so drained

Please take it away
Cause you dont like to change your bad habits,
Keep stabbing me awake
No i don’t need this
Wont sit and watch you
spiral down the drain

Cause i've been dying
This whole time
Made sure to keep you safe

Always you before me
I cant see, I can't breathe
But at least, I know I loved you good
Just like you said you would

You don't hesitate
You'd rather feel nothing
You don't think about the way it affects me

And I laid wide awake
Trying to breathe
As you ignored me
Made me feel unworthy

No I don’t need this
Wont sit and watch you
spiral down the drain

Cause i've been dying
This whole time
Made sure to keep you safe

Always you before me
I cant see, I can't breathe
But at least, I know I loved you good
Just like you said you would

You left me in the front seat crying
My heart was fighting to stay alive
I'm so sorry, but i’m done fighting
I couldn't take the pain you left with me
when you stood me up,
Crying, I tried calling
The second time when it ringed
I heard you reject me
I left a 3-minute voicemail for you and
Could barely get through it
without letting go of my breath

It was so scary to think you abandoned me

If only you could feel
The way you made me feel

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mackenzie Day's song "Spiral" paint a poignant picture of a tumultuous and painful relationship. The opening lines express a deep sense of hurt and exhaustion, with the singer feeling drained by the emotional turmoil caused by their partner's toxic behavior. Despite the pain, the singer pleads for relief and for their partner to let go of destructive habits that continue to hurt them, metaphorically described as "stabbing me awake."

As the song progresses, the singer asserts their boundaries and refuses to passively witness their partner's self-destructive spiral. They highlight the sacrifices they have made, always putting their partner's needs before their own and ensuring their safety, even at the cost of their own well-being. The repeated refrain underscores the singer's struggle to prioritize their own needs while grappling with conflicting emotions of love and self-preservation.

The lyrics reveal a poignant moment of realization and empowerment when the singer decides to no longer tolerate being mistreated. The imagery of being left crying in the front seat while their heart fights to survive encapsulates the profound emotional turmoil and heartache caused by their partner’s actions. Despite their efforts to communicate and seek validation through a voicemail, the rejection and abandonment they experience only deepen their sense of hurt and betrayal.

Overall, "Spiral" delves into themes of pain, sacrifice, and self-worth within the context of a toxic relationship. The lyrics invite listeners to empathize with the singer's struggles and reflect on the complexities of love, boundaries, and letting go. The raw emotions and narrative dynamics in the song capture the nuances of navigating a relationship fraught with emotional turmoil and the ultimate realization that self-preservation sometimes requires walking away from unhealthy dynamics.

The look on Christi’s face when Chloe said I heard Abby literally breaks my heart every time.

HA! She started it!

It’s even more heart breaking when you realize what she actually said to Chloe

She insulted Chloe’s eye issue. I thoroughly hate Abby. I would never inflict her on my child.

@mallory what eye condition?

It took a lot for Christi to not kick Abby butt when she called Chloe "washed up."

For those of you who don’t know: Abby didn’t actually say “your kid’s washed up”, it was edited. What Abby really said was “get Chloe’s lazy eye fixed”. That really hurt her because at the time she was having tests to figure out whether or not it was cancer. Thankfully she doesn’t have cancer but it was still a horrible thing to say.

I am so glad at least ONE parent defended their child and REMOVED from this emotional abuse
