Few Christian bands have enjoyed the longevity and underground critical acclaim as Mad at the World. From the day mailman and lead singer Roger Rose stuck a tape in a record company executive's mailbox until current times, Mad at the World has turned heads with their provocative music.
The first two albums featured a synth/pop style of music. Then, in order to have a sound more amiable for live performances, the band's musical style shifted to hard rock for the next three albums. The last two albums brought some member changes and a more retro sounding style of music.
Lyrically, the band delves into the many struggles we face in life and reminds us of our hope in our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Issues dealt with in the songs include drugs, anger, hopelessness, and lost loves -- as well as hope, love, peace, forgiveness, blessed relationships, and eternal life.

Between these walls you're thrown, between these wall you stay,
You can't eat or drink unless you hear me say.
Trapped like an animal, 'til you loose the chains,
Chains, yeah.
I'll bring to down on your knees: I am your pain, your sin,
I am your disease.
Trapped like an animal, 'til you loose the chains,
Chains.
Play it, baby.
Alright,
Oh, yeah.
I know you're leaving now; there's not much I can say,
The cross of your salvation sent the fallen angel to its fiery damnation.
Trapped like an animal, 'til you loose the chains,
Chains.
Loose the chains.
Loose the chain, loose the chain,
Loose the chain in Jesus' name.
Alright.
The song "Trapped" by Mad At The World speaks to the experience of being trapped and controlled, like an animal, within a confined space. The lyrics describe a situation where the singer is being held against their will by someone who has complete control over them, to the point where they cannot even eat or drink without permission. The captor is portrayed as a sadistic figure, deriving pleasure from the power they hold over the singer, and taking pleasure in their suffering. The singer implores their captor to release them from their chains, longing to be free from this life of pain and suffering.
The song can be seen as a metaphor for the experience of feeling trapped and controlled in one's own life, as well as the power dynamics that can exist within human relationships. The lyrics suggest that it is possible to break free from these chains, but that it requires a great deal of strength and determination, as well as faith in a higher power. In the end, the singer turns to God, asking for help in breaking free from their bonds and finding salvation.
Overall, "Trapped" is a heavy and introspective song that speaks to the struggles of living in a world where freedom can often seem elusive. The lyrics are filled with intense emotion and the instrumentation is powerful and driving, adding to the sense of urgency and desperation present in the song.
