Hard to Read
Madcon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been trying to talk to you, but you won't listen

Tshawe
What it is, what it do
Let me spit something to you
What we have is a lot, and we knew it but we liked it
Besides it was bound to fall apart in time
So let it wither while we dyin' starin' into eachothers eyes
Pretend, that's fine with me, no offense
But time will heal, let me try atleast
I'm on hands with this shit and your constant bitching give me migraine
I'm tryin' to get out of here but can't
Let another man get down with sweetness, nah
You too fine for that, yo
And you notice, I'm looking at her motherfucking [?]
Cause that body you get, [?]

Noora Noor
You're so hard to read
Oh wow
Can't understand a word of what it mean
No no
You're so hard to read, to me, can't understand a word you speak
You're so hard to read baby, can't say the words I wanna hear
You make hurt inside that's why you got to leave
Don't want to waste my time and we can't seem to find a way out this rhythm
I tried but you didn't, hard to read

Yosef
I stepped up, not for you one to talk
So I wrote down these words, I'll tell 'em if you walk with me
I hate it when we part ways, something like a dark age
I just want you to find a spark with me
Like, I just start to stutter, I'm letting down my guard
I'm hard, but I'm butter
Why won't you talk to a brother, let go's
Like everytime you I'm giving you my hand, you get cold
If I'm the car, you're the petrol
But everytime we talk it's like I'm slippin' on wet floor
I'm trynna correct wrongs, girl you a part of me
You my heart why you so fucking hard to read?

Tshawe
I can't say that we actually have fun
We never had a moment of clarity, we was that drunk
Whenever you started shit I had to laugh
Cause ain't nobody talking to me, I'm out that door
You hard to read, and that's so
We never matched so ain't a damn thing we can do
It was in-fucking-evitable, but'a, it was in-fucking-credible
Baby don't preach, but I confess to you in need
I had to leave, cause you weren't ready for me
Yosef
Anyway
I know we had a good run though
And I hate it when the good get done, but'a
Anyway
I'm thinking it's best we part ways, I been trynna tell you, but

Overall Meaning

The song "Hard To Read" by Madcon is about two people who are struggling to communicate effectively. The lyrics suggest that the two may have once had a strong connection but things have taken a turn and one of them is finding it difficult to express themselves. Tshawe tries to communicate his thoughts but doesn't feel listened to, leading to frustration and ultimately wanting to leave the situation. Yosef, on the other hand, seems to be willing to make things work but is met with resistance and coldness from the other person. Noora Noor adds her perspective as someone who is hurt and feeling the need to leave because of the lack of understanding and difficulty in communication.

One interpretation of the song could be that at times in relationships, people may have different ways of expressing love or may not feel that their partner "gets" them. This can lead to misunderstandings, arguments and difficulties in finding a resolution. The song highlights the importance of communication and understanding in relationships, and how without it, things can quickly fall apart.

Despite my attempts to communicate with you, you are unwilling to listen to what I have to say.

We both knew our relationship was destined to fail eventually, so let's allow it to naturally come to an end while we enjoy our remaining time together. I understand if you feel the need to pretend everything is fine between us, but your constant complaints are causing me distress. I want to move on, but I can't seem to let go. I won't allow another man to appreciate your beauty, and you can sense that I am eyeing other women. You have a great body, and I am aware of it.

You're so hard to read Oh wow Can't understand a word of what it mean No no You're so hard to read, to me, can't understand a word you speak You're so hard to read baby, can't say the words I wanna hear You make hurt inside that's why you got to leave Don't want to waste my time and we can't seem to find a way out this rhythm I tried but you didn't, hard to read
You are difficult to understand, and I struggle to comprehend your true feelings and intentions. It's painful to be with someone who keeps their emotions hidden and doesn't communicate their needs effectively. I don't want to waste my time and energy trying to figure out what you want, and we can't seem to escape this toxic cycle of miscommunication. I have tried to make things work between us, but you have not put in the same level of effort.

I stepped up, not for you one to talk So I wrote down these words, I'll tell 'em if you walk with me I hate it when we part ways, something like a dark age I just want you to find a spark with me Like, I just start to stutter, I'm letting down my guard I'm hard, but I'm butter Why won't you talk to a brother, let go's Like everytime you I'm giving you my hand, you get cold If I'm the car, you're the petrol But everytime we talk it's like I'm slippin' on wet floor I'm trynna correct wrongs, girl you a part of me You my heart why you so fucking hard to read?
I am making an effort to communicate my feelings to you through these lyrics. I hate when we are not together, and I want to reignite the spark we once had. I am trying to openly express my emotions and be vulnerable with you, but you still keep your walls up. I am willing to do anything to make our relationship work, but it feels like every time we talk, we take two steps backward. You are an essential part of my life, and it frustrates me that I can't seem to understand you.

I can't say that we actually have fun We never had a moment of clarity, we was that drunk Whenever you started shit I had to laugh Cause ain't nobody talking to me, I'm out that door You hard to read, and that's so We never matched so ain't a damn thing we can do It was in-fucking-evitable, but'a, it was in-fucking-credible Baby don't preach, but I confess to you in need I had to leave, cause you weren't ready for me
Our relationship was never truly enjoyable or fulfilling, and we were often under the influence of alcohol. When you caused drama, I would brush it off with laughter because I felt disconnected from you. We were never compatible in the first place, and there was nothing we could do to change that. Despite our issues, I still acknowledge that our time together was memorable. However, I had to end things because you were not prepared for the type of relationship I wanted.

Anyway I know we had a good run though And I hate it when the good get done, but'a Anyway I'm thinking it's best we part ways, I been trynna tell you, but
Although we had some good times, I recognize that it's time for us to go our separate ways. It's tough to let go of something that was once great, but I've been trying to communicate this to you for some time now.
