How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?

Fear not, He is with thee, O be not dismayed,
For He is thy God, and will still give thee aid;
He’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by His righteous, omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters He calls thee to go,
The rivers of grief shall not thee overflow;
For He will be with thee, in trouble to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
His grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; his only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
He will not, he cannot desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
He never will leave thee, will never forsake!

While watching "Emma", this song GRABBED my attention and I couldn't get it out of my mind! Utterly BEAUTIFUL!!!❤

@anitacollingwood4224

Same!!

@tinak5765

Just watched Emma. and discovered this wonderful music! I can’t get enough. It draws you in, just love the simple harmony. Kudos to the team that addd this element to the soundtrack. I hear the basis of American folk music here. So good.

@JaredBurney

The album "Sing Lustily and with Good Courage" is where this song comes from. The rest of the songs have the same vibe

@chrishoo2

So true. Either Appalachian music or the the people of the Maritimes in Canada!

@hilhorst2035

😅😅

@arielrodriguez968

This is actually a shapenote hymn! Shapenote or Sacred Harp is a really cool old American tradition that came from England and Ireland, so you’ve got a good ear! There are still groups in America who gather to sing this kind of music.

@bchapman1234

Well done. This a hymn for times of trial and tribulation. It should be sung with courage and conviction

@ngreen9305

brian chapman couldn’t agree more.

@reogrande8020

Annoying all the references to gods etc when adults know better now but still a lovely peice
