Just watched Emma. and discovered this wonderful music! I can’t get enough. It draws you in, just love the simple harmony. Kudos to the team that addd this element to the soundtrack. I hear the basis of American folk music here. So good.

This is actually a shapenote hymn! Shapenote or Sacred Harp is a really cool old American tradition that came from England and Ireland, so you’ve got a good ear! There are still groups in America who gather to sing this kind of music.

I’m thankful to be part of an old-fashioned congregation that still sings these old songs of the faith; and we sing them with full meaning of the words. These old songs still ring true centuries later.

I'm not surprised that some of the verses were changed!
These American cults should write their OWN hymns, & leave "How Firm a Foundation" alone!
The irony is that the whole point of the hymn is to extol the thoroughness & COMPLETENESS of the Bible ("What more can he say, than to you, he has said...?") & the uniqueness of Christ.
This is the opposite of what Joseph Smith's silly novel ("Book of Moron") & other cults like Jehovah's Witnesses" etc believe!
Many of us who actually DO follow the beliefs & theology of John Rippon's hymn selection (as opposed to Cultic hi-jackers), still sing this.

Beautiful. The only thing that really disappoints me with this arrangement is the moment the instruments start to play. In my opinion, the chosen harmonies work much better in a pure acapella rendition. It somehow seems to me to be that way more haunting, thoughtful, folkish, yea, even pilgrimatical. Perhaps it is because of the weary sound being worthy of a companionship of fellow Pilgrims on their way to their heavenly Home, edifying and comforting one another to stand fast.
In short, I would love to have an acapella version of all five stanza in this simple but melancholic style.

Totally different ensemble. She was a founding member of Steeleye but has since recorded as Silly Sisters, etc. She has recorded with The Carnival Band as a guest but still performs with Steeleye to this day.
