Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, she rose to solo stardom with her debut studio album, Madonna (1983). She followed it with a series of successful albums, including all-time bestsellers Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) as well as Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Madonna has amassed many number-one singles throughout her career, including "Like a Virgin", "La Isla Bonita", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Take a Bow", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".
Madonna's popularity was enhanced by roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), and Evita (1996). While Evita won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, many of her other films received poor reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded the company Maverick in 1992; it included Maverick Records, one of the most successful artist-run labels in history. Her other ventures include fashion brands, children's books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She contributes to various charities, having founded the Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.
With sales of over 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is certified as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. She is the most successful solo artist in the history of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and holds the record for the most number-one singles by a female artist in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. With a revenue of U.S. $1.5 billion from her concert tickets, she remains the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time. Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, her first year of eligibility. She was ranked as the greatest woman in music by VH1 in 2012, and as the greatest music video artist of all time by MTV in 2003 and Billboard in 2020. Rolling Stone also listed Madonna among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.

Unapologetic Bitch
Madonna Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I thought awhile, but I'm finally moving on
Said it, did it, hit it, quit it
Then you let it go
See you tryin' to call me, but I blocked you on the phone
It took a minute, but now I'm feeling strong
It almost killed me, but I'm better off alone
Now you sayin' that you're sorry, I don't wanna know
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
You know you never really knew how much you loved me 'til you lost me
Did you?
You know you never really knew how much your selfish bullshit cost me
Well, fuck you
It might sound like I'm an
It might sound like I'm an
I know you'd like it if I stayed home and cried
But that ain't gonna happen, here's the reason why
When we did it, I'll admit it, wasn't satisfied
When the gun was loaded you were never on my side
I'm popping bottles that you can't even afford
I'm throwing parties and you won't get in the door
Said it, did it, loved it, hated it
I don't care no more
Tell me how it feels to be ignored
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
You know you never really knew how much you loved me 'til you lost me
Did you?
You know you never really knew how much your selfish bullshit cost me
Well, fuck you
It might sound like I'm an
It might sound like I'm an
Yeah yeah yeah woah
Yeah yeah yeah woah
Yeah yeah yeah woah
Yeah yeah yeah woah
It might sound like I'm an
It might sound like I'm an
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
You know you never really knew how much you loved me, till you lost me?
Did you?
You know you never knew how much your selfish bullshit cost me?
Well, fuck you
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch
But sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is
It might sound like I'm an

In this song, Madonna is expressing her empowerment and independence following a breakup from a toxic relationship. She acknowledges that it was difficult to move on from the person who left her, but she is better off without them. She also calls out the person for their selfish behavior and demonstrates her own self-love by celebrating her newfound independence with parties and expensive bottles of alcohol. Madonna proclaims that she is an unapologetic bitch, unafraid to speak her mind and call things as they are, even if it may come across as harsh or uncivil.
The chorus of the song, "It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch, but sometimes you know I gotta call it like it is," showcases the overall message of the song. Madonna is asserting her own confidence and autonomy by refusing to apologize for her feelings and actions. She knows what is best for her and is willing to stand up for herself, irrespective of societal expectations.

It blows my mind how many people hate on Madonna. People aren't exaggerating when they call her the Queen. She's been doing it longer than any other pop artist out there today. She's someone to look up to. She's a legend. Hate or love her, she's amazing and will continue until she's 70!!! Xoxo
@CNathanielHarris
Couldn't agree more!!!
@anthonya985

It doesnt matter how old she gets ... she will always be the queen of pop and damn she does a good job being the queen. Great album, great songs!!! Can't wait to see her on her tour ... which again beats most tours around the planet.
